| MINI2 Regular | BBR phase 1 question I found out to day that BBR who did a phase 1 220 conversion on my mini cs dont actualy change the charger pully ,but instead change the lower pully size so you can still use a std belt.So does this mean if i change the charger pully i will get more power. |

Offline | I'm guessing they changed the crank pulley then? Yes, adding a pulley will add more power. The crank pulley sizes are usually about a 2% increase (but also dramatically reduce the weight). If you get a 15% reduction pulley, it'll still up the power. A 15% reduction pulley with a 2% crank pulley should be near the equivalent of a 17% pulley for boost increase, plus the added benefit of weight loss at the crank. (I hope I know what I'm talking about here). |

Offline | Are you absolutely sure they didn't change the supercharger pulley? On mine they changed the pulley and the idler. Changing the idler means you can still use the standard size belt. I know because I got all the parts back!! |

Offline | The BBR phase 1 conversion involves the following : 1. Installation of BBR Star*Chip EVO-2 Software which includes (new map) 2. Installation of BBR Supercharger drive pulley 3. Installation of BBR / Cosworth drive belt idler 4. Changes to the boost and intercooling delivery systems As you can see the pulley is changed, however because they install a Cosworth idler the standard belt can still be used. Hope this helps. | MINI2 Regular | ok thanks guys, unfortunatly i didnt buy this from BBr myself the mini came with it and i got a bit confused with what bbr were saying regarding ,when changing the belt.so now i no ,i can use a std belt due to the cosworth idler. Also what size pully do they use to up the power, can you safly go smaller to up it more or will it cook the charger. |

Offline | I believe they use a 19% reduction pulley...... This is the reason the BBR 220 conversion has so much low end torque vs other conversions. I do not think there is any inherent design flaws with the BBR 220 conversion, however I would strongly recommend that you do the following (this is true for all conversions) : 1) Only use 97+ RON fuel [ BBR web site says you can use 95 RON this is risky) 2) Check what spark plugs are fitted......BBR do not change the spark plugs which I think is wrong..... I would suggest you change them for a colder heat range Iridium plugs. 3) Do not try for the land speed record...... or go exploring the upper revs ranges for extended periods. Hope this helps Perm ![]() |

| MINI2 Regular | My car has now got many more mods and although its running with the bbr pully its now had MTH mapping to cater for the new mods.i.e. large valve head, piper cam, fidenza flywheel, gtt manafold, play mini exhuast, larger injectors, iridium plugs,Alta induction kit,GRS intercooler, etc etc.so i wounderd as its a long way from the bbr conversion wether a different pully would be benificial and safe for my engine/charger and give me more power,or should i keep it the same size, pully that is.as im due a belt change next week. Offline | Are you happy with your current set-up ? If yes why change anything? Driving any heavily modified car like yours is never going to be as "safe" as driving a standard MCS irrespective of what size pulley you have installed. By the spec you have got a real monster........... Who did you get all the other tuning bits from maybe they could advise better? Who is changing your belt ? Remember the BBR pulley / idler combination uses the standard MCS belt and not the shorter versions as some conversions require. Cheers Perm Perm ![]() |
