Offline | new owner! I want to do small engine mods hello! Ive just bought my first mini Its a few years old but looks lovely and im itching to drive it all the time. Its a cooper and i was thinking of upgrading the spark plugs to Bosch ones and Im also going to change the air filter to a ITG one rather than K&N. Are these worth doing and do i need any special equipment to change the spark plugs? If there is anything else that will improve the engine please say. Thanks Laura |

Offline | Welcome new owner. Is it just a panel filter or induction kit. panel filter will improve sounds slightly and maybe a tiny bit of performance. induction kit gives lots of sound and more performance. I just changed my spark plugs yesterday. but also upgraded the ignition leads and put a 40,000 volt coil pack. it has made it a bit smoother. the spark plugs are easy to change if you use the right socket. you can get them from halfords. Other good mods are things like getting the ECU chipped and maybe exhaust system. any questions feel free to contact me. |

Offline | I have gone for Denso iridium. they can with stand a higher temp and voltage while giving a better spark. If just a panel filter go with any sporty make. If you open your bonnet and look at your engine you will see the ignition leads on top. These leads all plug into a square box. this is your coil pack. it produces the electricity thats sent to the spark plugs. By putting in a 40,000 volt pack mine makes a bigger spark. I got my spark plugs fitted for free by the some good guys at MINI Mania who are based in wales. Any garage should be able to fit them for a small fee. |

Offline | Welcome and if you really want to improve the MINIs performance for little outlay then I suggest getting BLUEFIN. This is a handheld computer thingie which plugs into the ECU under the steering wheel and modifies it and gives you and extra 30bhp or so! Check this website for Group Buys etc. I got mine from LOHEN. Great guys there. |
