SuperChips have autorised dealers. In the case of the Mini they plug ito the onboard diagnostics socket under the steering wheel and reprogram the flash memory of the ECU thus remapping your car. So a quick job. They will then give you an electronic key so that you can have your car reprogrammed at anytime back to as it was. This also provides your identity. Obvoiusly your dealer warrenty could be affected if they though any engine damage was due to the remapping. In pratice it is unlikely that they would find out. If they did then SuperChips have underwritten the warrenty with thier own so you can claim from that instead.

If you chip it and don't tell your insurance - and they find out (eg serious accident) your insurance will be invalid. Be warned if you are in an accident where a 'big' claim is involved then either insurance company can and WILL check.

Your advice is sound for the UK. In Switzerland however insurers aren't as nitpicking - you are allowed a limited increase in power (not quite sure about the exact figure - I seem to remember 20% as the limit) provided the increase does not affect your exhaust emmission levels.

Superchips do a good mod (on the One specially) and the fact that it can be done without physically touching the chip is IMO excellent. Also you can put it back to standard any time - so IMO that makes it completely undetectable.

FAO 400bhp I know a garage in Lausanne who does the mod - send me a PM.
