Offline | Best performance upgrade for the $ ? What is the all around best performance upgrade (besides tires) one can do that's the best bang for the buck? I'm assuming it's an ECU or chip upgrade. |

| Trained Monkey | Do you mean for the current car, or the new car? You've posted this in the 2nd gen forum, and for that car there's not much known as it's a new engine etc. Our trials and tribulations living in a "bleeding edge" eco house... Oxley Woods Living |

| Amiga 500 to PS3 20 Years | You need a pulley extractor so it's probably best to pay a MINI specialist to do it. I belive some may come with an extractor but don't hold me to that. Best places? I'd say start in the sponsor directory, up top and have a look through there. Maybe try searching for peoples experiences of particular pulleys. TBH they are all much of a muchness but come in different percentages. Generally 15, 17 and 19% reduction. 15% is probably the best place to start especially with no other mods. ![]() It was acceptable in the 80's |

Offline | Manual gearbox, Bilbo. Anyway, thanks for all the replies. I'm a part time mechanic and just, this is how I heard to do it, hoisting up the engine a little and extracting the old pulley and installing the new one doesn't seem like much on paper. Although you can never tell. Actually, I'm still awaiting the arrival of my car. I'm just excited and looking forward to what I can do. Professional driving classes are definitely in the future, well, at least a track day here and there. But I'm always looking for something to enhance my driving experience so I'm looking at all the modification possibilities. |

Offline | Hmmm... there's lots of answers to this one. The pulley will get you the most cheap horsepower. Instruction / driver ability is the most valuable. Tires are probably the most useful as they help acceleration, braking, and cornering. If you're going to spend time on the track, brakes are the most important upgrade (at least pads and fluid). Front camber plates make a big difference in handling, but a bigger rear swaybar is cheaper and has a similar effect. The combo of a rear swaybar and front camber plates can make a really good corner carver. it depends on what you're going for. Just fast? pulley Track? Instruction, brakes, tires, suspension, then power - perhaps tires before brakes, but I doubt it. |

Offline | Too true.... I managed to shave 9 seconds off my first session best lap time just by having an instructor next to me explaining/correcting my driving style. Albeit the final best lap time wasn't so great, but a good achievement nonetheless... and a good foundation to improve upon. ![]() |
