Offline | DSC worth it??? Being the Mini is a FWD car I don't think there would be too many outrageous stories of people wrecking their MC's unless they were doing some crazy driving maneuver and flipped the car. So my question is to you, w/ many having far more knowledge of these cars than I. Is it worth the investment to opt for DSC or not??? |

Offline | I was in the same situation wondering whether it was worth it. Its one of those options that you never want to think after an accident 'I wish I specced DSC' I have it specced on mine. |

Offline | My current car is loaded to the brim w/ safety features, it's from a brand many consider to be the maker of the "safest cars in the world"(go figure) and the one thing that it doesn't have is the makes' own version of DSC. Now my car isn't too incredibly great of a handler in any way shape or form, but I've managed to do a few crazy things and in only one situation did I loose control but common sense kicked in and I saved myself from a potentially sucky situation. DSC is about $550 USD, I plan on using my MCS as a daily means from point A to B and then some, I dont' want to load my car w/ options that I won't get any tangible use out of. |

| Now With More Cowbell | DSC has saved me from at least one tank-slapper (I'm not afraid to admit that my reach exceeds my grasp when it comes to driving talent). As others have said, it's quiescent most of the time, but when you need it, you really need it. Global Moderator |

Offline | To be honest... I can't tell the difference between DSC and ASC+T. My last S had DSC and my new one has ASC. Both have seemed very effective. However, there have been a couple of times when DSC nearly hurt me in my old S. Once was going over a humpback bridge when I had a bit of front wheel lift, it killed the power to the engine and cause a proper fishtail when they finally caught traction... it felt horrible. The second time was trying to pull out in front of a transit van, one wheel had a little bit of spin, but all the power was cut causing me to stumble in the path of the van instead of just pulling out and accelerating. It's a bit too sensitive sometimes. |

Offline | It's like the opposite of a doing a driving course.. You now pay to lessen your skills and forget what to do in the event of an emergency.. I didn't spec it on mine, the only time I've ever experienced it was on a 3 series that I was trying to drift through a corner, nearly went off the road because the car ended up where I wasn't expecting. Horrible. I'm sure they'll be lots of people claiming it saved them from a crash, but so would enhancing your driving skills, and it's a lot more fun to boot.... Examples, I can add & subtract, because I learnt pre-caculator, I don't have GPS, which means I still have the ability to read maps and road signs. can't remember phone numbers mind, coz they're all in the phone... I'm not a technophobe, it's just that once you learn to rely on these things, your brain turns to mush. How many people know how to cadence brake now that we all rely on ABS?? |

Offline | Ah yes, used to drive a 1968 Hillman Hunter - four wheel drums, can't beat that for stopping power I enjoy the peice of mind with all these passive safety features, if you want have a bit of a hoon, just flip the switch and turn it off - just don't forget to turn it back on again. |

Offline | I never had it on my Cooper and I didn't need it (I am a reasonable confident, compitant and quick driver and have had proper high speed driving tuition, on several track and rally days). However that being said, everyone is falable, the Cooper did have 1 moment when DSC may have helped but I was able to recover without its use anyway. I now have an S with DSC and it has kicked in on 3 occasions already and several other times (for traction reasons in those cases, so ASC would be the real reason for the light coming on). I would not spec a car without it now, because its always better to have it and not use than rue not getting it when the car is in a heap of scrap metal ![]() Plus DSC is very very handy in ice, snow and other slippery driving conditions...you can get places and up places that without it you would struggle. I point you towards the TopGear or Fifth Gear show where they tested the differeces in skids and driving up hills on ice of a Jag with and without the DSC (they call it ESP or something). R |

Offline | No Question that DSC saves lives.......... We would imagine these unlucky Mini owners didn't have it fitted: http://www.mini2.com/forum/mini-coop...ighlight=crash http://www.mini2.com/forum/mini-coop...ighlight=crash If after looking at those you need convincing further have a look at the recent What Car report £200 To Save Your Life http://www.whatcar.com/news-article.aspx?NA=219916 We would never spec a car without it now................ |

Offline | I don't have it on my '05 Cooper and I'm not sure if that if I was getting one now I'd get it either. For sure it's good to have, as anything that might save you pain/injury would, but I find that without it I just don't drive in conditions that might call for it. I'm sure they'll come a day when I I'll wish I would have gotten it, but it's like having a standard instead of a automatic...there are instances when the difference between the time it takes to shift as opposed to it auto shifting might save your life. It's my way of living life on the edge. ;-) |
