Offline | Has anyone got any views, or experience, of the differences, if any, between the K&N (33-2239) and Pipercross (PP1487) replacement elements? Performance-wise? Noise-wise? Similarly, is there anything to choose between these companies' respective induction kits? The main physical difference here seems to be that the K&N 57i has a "concertina-paper" type filter whereas the Pipercross PK222 is foam? Which is better?? |

Offline | I havn't got any experience of these two against each other but I work at a porsche specialist Co and IMHO the foam filters clogg up easily and will only stand cleaning so many times. The foam filters do work well in really dusty dry conditions. In the UK or Europe I'd go for the K&N type all day long. There are other makes as good as K&N but a bit cheaper ,Try a Co called COTTON GREEN, I'm going to see if they do a filter for the MINI as I want 1 4 mine Hope this Helps |

Offline | I've got a pipercross induction kit, I had then on my last two cars, and I would recommened having one. They deffently improve throttle response and power, but the best thing is they roar like a banshee, rooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! do it, you know u want 2! ![]() |

Offline | One all! Thanks for these replies, guys. So that's Pipercross:1 K&N:1 Any more views out there? Also, how about the comparison between the replacement filter element and the complete induction kit. It seems the induction kit does give better throttle response and a nice roar (however, is the apparent extra power psychological, at least to some degree, perhaps?). Does a replacement "free-flow" element in the standard filter-box actually give any improvement at all? |

| MINI2 Global Moderator | I've never had an induction kit but I did recommend a K&N panel filter to my dad when he was looking at replacing the one on his Volvo V70. He was very impressed and was so surprised at what a difference the filter made. The car accelerated much quicker and was much more responsive. I have ordered a K&N from Mini Spares (Thanks Simon ) but eventually I intend to fit the Works induction kit to my car.An Induction kit will be noisier than the standard filter where as a K&N won't make any noise difference the MINI has gone... |

Offline | K&N much more expensive - worth it? I've just discovered that the K&N 33-2239 filter element costs c.£42, against c.£32 for the Pipercross PP1487 and that the 57i induction kit (when available, in about 4 to 6 weeks' time) will be c.£96, against the Pipercross PK222 at c.£85. Given the price premium, does this indicate that K&N is indeed the better product? Or is it over-priced? |

Offline | I spoke to pipercross today and they confirmed that all new pipercross induction kits ( the £85 ones) will have the 90 degree bend removed from today and be the same as the JCW versions. Pipercross make the JCW induction kit too, and they arn't sure why they have a £80 premium for the same product. anyway i digress I think if pipercross is good enough for JCW, then its good enough for me! i called Demon tweeks today and ordered mine. if you buy a pipercross induction kit from stock from a supplier, it will still have the bend in it, but if they have to order it from the factory, it will be the new straight version. Pipercross also said that the viper cold air kit has been modified so that the resonator boxes don't have to be removed and it is not a permenant installation anymore gerry MINI Cooper, Chili Pack, Xenons, heated washers, MFSW, ASC+T, |

Offline | That's very interesting news, moonshine. Thanks Perhaps you could let us know what the Pipercross is like when you get it, in terms of quality - pref. post a pic or two - as well as in terms of performance/noise. If it is pretty much identical to the JCW version, that's got to be good. Remains to be seen, however, whether the forthcoming K&N kit is also a "straight" one. Does anyone out there know? |

Offline | In the USA, K&N has a good reputation but is often the highest priced for a given model. It is very hard for a consumer to measure filter performance. I have used K&N with no problems and some slight performance gain but have had similar results with other brands. I use the Pipercross filter on our Cooper. |

Offline | Does that mean the pipercross air filter is going to be the same as the works filter from now on? Does anyone have any pics of the new pipercross filters? |

Offline | If you want to see the Pipercross filter as it looks installed, check out my website. It has an under-the-hood pic prominently showing the Pipercross filter. http://www.indiblue.batcave.net BTW, it really makes a difference starting at about 3200 rpm.
