Dark Silver Hamann vs. MK-Motorsport

I have had my '05 MCS for a year and I am now looking into tuning the engine.

Naturally I have the good old JCW option. I already had a test drive a few weeks back. Certainly at top end you can feel (and hear) the difference. However, the midrange grunt was a bit lacking.

As so many others, I am now hesitating between JCW and aftermarket tuners. However, living in Warsaw/Poland makes the research a bit more challenging. As the aftermarket options I have been checking Hamann's and MK-Motorsport's tuning packages. I was hoping to get some advice/experiences/pointers from the nice and knowedgeable mini2 folks regarding these two.

* Hamann

- Hamann CS2 (204hp/265Nm): ECU reprogramming, mod supercharger, air filter
- Hamann CS2S (225hp/260Nm): as above + Water cooled intercooler, Sports rear muffler

* MK-Motorsport

- MK engine kit A (210 bhp): electronics modification, changed supercharger translation
- MK engine kit B (230 bhp): as above + MK-header with steel-catalyst, special air filter system, MK-end muffler, special spark plugs

Does anybody have first hand experiences of these and/or have read some reviews? I was thinking of starting with the lower end kits (similar quoted performance to JCW) and then optionally upgrading later.

These packages are quite similarly priced, perhaps Hamann a bit more expensive.

Any comments are more than welcome!

Thanks,
Samuli

Ps. Having a short vacation, perhaps I'll just go for a little ride (1200km one way) with my MCS to say hello to the Hamann and MK-Motorsport people in Southern Germany? Well, that's an idea...

Hi,

Was looking at the Hamann tuning kit for my S too as I have a local Hamann fitter, asked a few times on here but looks like there isn't a single MINI in the world with this kit fitted

Good luck

Weird...

Perhaps it is a language barrier issue. AFAIK, Hamann is a big name in Germany. My school German is a bit rusty (to say the least), but perhaps some of our German speaking friends would know more.

I will report if my pilgrimage to Hamann/MK-Motorsport becomes a reality and I learn more

Hi!

Well I'll start of with saying that this kit brought the boost build up from 3,000 revs down to 2,000 revs. From being lagy to a more responsive motor. Even though I have a full spec car it still made a noticble difference.. a small power jump but effective.

Their service was very good only glitch was with the ecu. They had to send it to Germany to reprogram it. It could be a different case where you live and you really want to go to Germany lol.

A simple kit is what it is.. its no bigger supercharger or turbo, so don't expect a huge change.

Any more Q's are most welcome

Thanks uae mini,

I talked to both MK and Hamann. They were indeed quite helpful but as you also hinted it started to sound a bit complicated and laborous due to the unavailability of a local representative.

Looks like I am going to splash out on JCW then afterall. My local Mini dealer made a quite good offer on the JCW engine and brake kits.
