Allot of which short shift to get depends upon what exactly you are looking for. What you expect from the kit.
Do you want the knob lower?
Do you want the knob at the same height?

I think those are the two biggest questions that need to be answered to start with.

If you think you like a low knob then there several kits such as the Alta, and Craven, and B&M, to name just a few, that all shorten the length of the throw by shortening the length of the shift lever inside the cab and lowering the knob.

If you think that you want to maintain the stock height of the knob there are kits that will do that also. They do it by lengthening the lever below the pivot point and are installed from below the car. Kits are available from Ultrik(MINI Mania), and Helix(Out Motoring), and MINI Madness.

Both end up with approximately equal shortening. One just leaves the knob closer to the steering wheel.

Are you sure that the B&M is a shortened lever? I was under the impression that the B&M was the same height as stock. Thanks Steve

I think you are correct. I just checked their site and I do not believe that their shifter is adjustable. I was thinking that is was in my first post.

It does not say specifically that it is stock length, but it also does not say that it isn't. So I'll give them the benifit of doubt.

Sorry for any confusion.

so B&M sounds a pain, as is a knob extention,
so is the craven the only solution to 05 mcs 6 speed box with milly cat back?

I have the Craven & love it. I have a 2.5" exhaust but am still able to use the shifter in the lowest position.
