Question Gearbox Benefits?

I was thinking... would an engine damper compensate for some of the clunky roughness of gear changes with the Midland gearbox? If so, do you think this modification could make the gearbox last longer?

Many thanks,
Andrew.

It might..... I would think that any smoother shifting would be add some life (albeit at a lot) to pieces and parts.

I have the texas one fitted to my facelift S and it lasted 25 miles before the brackets bent and twisted!
I have emailed the supplier but they are sure its my incorrect fitting and attempts to adjust it on the car.
It is fitted correctly and I do know of another that has done the same.

They have admitted that later brackets are to be thicker but I have had no responce to my email sent weeks ago asking for replacement brackets!

Is it actually damping or is it completely solid to bend it that easily? but then it doesnt look too thick....

I have seen this bit of kit on a pre facelift car and its good...works well and looks like it can do the job...the lines and angles and basic damping line appear to be in line with what i'd expect. I have also seen the same one on 2 post facelift cars and both Daves and anouther MINI cooper S car have been badly twisted! I could not belive the twist on the brackets when i saw them in person. TBH when you look at the bracket and damper lines on the post facelift cars you can see the difference in the angles the damper moves in compared to the early car. The late cars just have not got the mounting in the right place for this to work properly IMO.

Daves is not fitted wrong...theres little to get wrong when it comes to fitting it, so its either a misjudgement on post facelift cars as to the angles nessesary to allow some movement, in correct direction (stops brackets twisting) or a misjudgement on the actual size/shape/material of the brackets

I have seen the insides of these and TBH Its seems to do the job well enough on early cars but its not that sofisticated...I won't give texas speedways manufature away but its really is very simplistic. But simplistic can be efffective and it appears to be on the early cars...just not on later models

Its just 2 nylon bushes in a tube to be blunt!

Under load it leavers the engine upwards in its attempt to stop it moving backwards.

It was a total waste of money IMO

If anyone wants to buy mine cheap!!! I may just keep it as an example of poor engineering.

Im not sure if its normal practice to support a rose joint on just one side when its faced on a 10mm spacer and bolted to 2-3mm steel at the narrowest section of steel in the whole bracket.

Im sorry if I have been hash on the product, but at the end of the day Its an item I have spent my money on and it does not do the job its designed to.

In the sales info it even claims to have bomb proof brackets!

The rose joints have play in them from new so I would not expect them to last long at all.

To be honest I would not sell it to anyone.

Will be interesting to see how well mine wears. I dont expect it to wear out though, as my engine moves less due to all the upper/lower engine and gearbox Proflex mounts my MINI already has. I do find mine touches the bonnet slighty on the body of the shock.

FYi their brackets were actually designed by a ROCKET SCIENTIST if you can believe that!

Not quite as robust as one would think!

Here's a pic of a set of ROBUST brackets that ain't going nowhere.

And at $80 it's a steal!

Very often simple is better than complicated in my humble opinion...

But then again, I am a little biased.

Unfortunately, I won't be selling these kits anymore, though I do have some brackets left over.

Bomb proof MY *SS.

That does look more substantial and angles far more realistically to deal with the directions of movement induced by the engine shifting.

I have seen one thats even better though

I do have extra brackets in stock. I just don't have any new dampers. I also have some slightly scuffed up dampers (cost of doing business) that were damaged in shipping to me.

Contact me if you are interested. I only have a handful of everything left...and hopefully I will get back to full throttle on this project soon.

If you have several hours, you can peruse through the 27 page group buy thread on another MINI site regarding my damper kit:

Tiny cosmetic scratches. Doesn't affect the performance but some of them do get nicked around when they come 100 in a box.

My normal price is $60 + $15 shipping/handling to the UK for 04-06 kits, $80 + $15 shipping/handling to the UK for the 02-03 model years (includes brackets).

Brackets don't work with the 04-06 and both kits come with instructions.

I'd like to get rid of these so $10 off either kit. Should have a handful in each color - red, blue, and silver....

Thanks.

Has anyone considered the effect fitting one of these may have on the functioning of your knock sensor?

An extra mount is fine if correctly dampened.

The rubbers in the damper I had were way too hard.
