Question Buying a Milltek exhaust advice

Hi,
I am about to buy a milltek exhaust for my 06 mini one, I went into a non-bmw garage near my house to ask how much fitting would cost and he asked me a few questions then said I'll need to have my car re-mapped, I told him I already had it re-mapped because I thought he was probably trying to get some more money out of me. I already have a bluefin but if I get a Milltek Cat-back do I need to get it re-re-mapped?
p.s he said it would take an hour to fit the exhaust and would cost £60 which I thought was reasonable, does anyone else remember how much it cost to get their fitted?
Thanks,
Crammy

p.p.s
Do I need to order and bolts e.t.c for it? And also does anyone know if the "special" exhaust tailpipe will fit a standard ONE bumper as it looks a bit large?

OK I know a little something on this as I research Millteks when i went for mine.

1. The milltek system can run on a stock car (especially if theres a stock manifold) without mapping.

2. If you have a remap, including bluefin, unless its massively tuned the milltek will be fine. There are numerous folks on S's and ONE/Cooper running bluefin with milltek exhausts.

3. The job on the MINI is easy and should take about 30mins for someone with reasonable competancy...less if they are used to millteks or MINI (I am assuming your getting a cat back system not a whole manifold and exhaust). Expect to pay about £25-£75 depending on fitter (is he a mate or a pro etc) and problems, even kwikfit monkeys can do this job...except thier rules don't let them fit non-kwikfit parts.

4. Speak to milltek about fitting kits, but usually these come with the exhaust. My one (when it was bought by the original owner) came with new bolts and gaskets for the link pipes and the cat joint.

5. When you buy a Milltek it is tailor sized and designed for a specific type of vehicle...therefore the exhaust (If you buy one for an 06 Cooper/ONE will fit a 06 Cooper/ONE and the tailpipe will be fine. There is a certain amount of adjustment needed to get alignments just right and some folks have had issues with rattles off of the bumper trims etc...which is why I suggested getting it done by a MINI/Milltek specialist like Lohen or even Milltek themselves who have been known to happily rectify poor fitments by other garages etc...check the website for details of thier fitting service if near Nottingham/Derby (Thats where they are based)

5. Depending on where you are use a MINI specialist...they won't be any more expensive than a garage. Lohen, GTT, MINImaniaUK, MINIspeed etc etc. If near staffordshire then Lohen are great...If in the south then try GTT or someone.

5.

basically, he is talking bollox, so go buy it and have some fun. There is no way the car needs a remap to run a different exhaust, absoloutely tosh.

And especialy the milltek, if you see how much effort Milltek put into designing their systems you will see that they would put this as a warning if it was needed, which it is not. I only stick by Milltek so much as my previous Ibiza was the development car for the mk4 ibiza Turbo's. And they are very very good products

go for it

I had a Milltek on my old One for a good year with no remap. I've never heard of needing a remap. The MINI's ECU should adapt by itself. You could always do an ECU reset, but I'm not sure how this is done.

Thanks.

The Milltek is very simple to fit, being a direct replacement, so anywhere that can fit an exhaust could do it. But for comfort, taking it to somewhere that knows about MINIs is indeed wise.

its not so much the fitting but bmw changed the floor plan (where the hangers for the zorst are mounted 5 or 6 times) so many people find theirs hangs at an odd height some even hanging down a few cm but lohen and milteck offer a specail fit service for them

Don't worry about that. Milltek are a great company to deal with, and if you have the wrong brackets for your year of car, Milltek will sort you out. They even offered to fit mine for free if I drove up to them...
