Question Discrete JCW mods

About a month ago I was evaluating different options for upgrading my '05 MCS. Eventually I went for JCW, partly for the warranty reasons but also to large extent because of lacking tuners in the region where I live. I already got the kit (engine upgrade+brakes) installed 1.5 weeks ago at the local BMW shop and as of today only have some 200km left of the run-in period!

It certainly is a lot of fun, but I am afraid that this will not be the end of it!

While there is still some warranty left and the local dealer seems to be quite flexible, I was planning to continue with some discrete/less intrusive enhancements. I am mostly interested in the performance increase.

So far on the shopping list:

- GTT/JCW Hybrid Induction Kit Upgrade
- Milltek/GTT/JCW 4-2-1 manifold

(Well, perhaps the latter is less "discrete", but at least the dealer seemed to say that they would agree not see it if I bring the car for a warranty related service job)

Qs:

* Has anybody installed this type of combo to their JCW or even made some RR before/after comparisons (power/torque)? Theoretically I have understood that this should be about 5hp+10hp, but how about real life?

* My better half seems to think that even the JCW exhaust is a bit loud, wondering if I manage to get away with Milltek/GTT/JCW 4-2-1...are they more or less similar in terms of dBs?

Any ideas/comments?

Been there, seen it, done it.... :-) although went a bit further with a crank pulley upgrade and ECU reflash....

Everything added to the car, made the JCW much better.... GTT manifold will probably sound less agressive than the Miltek option...

heres some reading for you...

Thanks Tonyt3,

That was an interesting read, sounds like I am looking at upgrading my budget ;-) Though I guess I will wait untl the warranty expires before taking the more hc route.

Anybody knows how the GTT and JCW 4-2-1 manifolds compare?

Decisions, decisions...

Venox has had both. I bought the GTT manifold from him and I am very happy with it. He did say he thought the GTT one was better, but I dont know if his opinion has changed with time. Would be worth asking him.

Thanks Bhozar, will try to get Venox's opinion on that!

I still have a bit of a learning curve ahead of me with this, but studying the options keeps me busy in the evenings...

What I understood is that the design of these (JCW, GTT) is different: JCW with 4-2-1 and GTT with 4-1. Also someone stated that 4-2-1 design should be giving better mid range grunt whereas 4-1 should be better at top end (more track use oriented).

But in any case have read a lot of positive comments about the GTT one and I am starting to be bending to that direction.

I fitted the GTT CAI simple and easy to put back for warranty and the GTT manifold very worth while, Warranty will only be effected by the bits you changed nothng else.

Roland gives you a 12 month warranty on his bits anyway

If i can't win i won't play......
