| The Roaming Gnome | Did you have the OEM LSD before the Quaife? I'm really curious as to the differences between the OEM and Quaife units. I know it's been addressed before in other threads, but all the posts that I've read never give a thorough explanation of the differences, however large or small they might be. For instance, does anyone know who manufactures the OEM LSD? I'm also quite interested in opinions of those that have been behind the wheel of MINIs that have had both the OEM and Quaife units. Offline | No my car had an open diff before. I have driven MCS`s with the standard diff an in my opinion isnt quite as agressive as the Quaife but still does a very good job, but at the end of the day they both do the same job really an thats to stop one wheel moving slowly an ther other spinning like furry ![]() |

| The Roaming Gnome | True... as long as one tire has traction. I was in a situation recently (summer tires on cold pavement) where I felt the LSD was attempting to perform its duty, but simply couldn't because neither tire was capable of grip.If anyone has input on the mechanical differences between the OEM and the Quaife, I'd love to know details. Offline | I realize heckles might be thrown my way for even asking this question, but I am curious if there are any options to improve my shared Cooper S with the automatic trani and traction control, tendency to severely cut power to the wheels as I put my foot in it coming out of a corner. I know its trying to prevent wheel spin and understeer but in many ways Id prefer a bit of understeeer in exchange for the power cuts. I realize the option always exist for me to quit sharing the car with my girlfriend (who refuses to learn to drive manual) and buy my own S with the manual gearbox and LSD. Personally an option that seems a bit to pricey for me at the present time. Any thoughts, I turn off the traction control on occasion but have always forgotten to when the spirit takes hold and I really mash down the accelerator. |
