Just wondering.....

I've got a 2006 cooper and was wondering if anyone know of any simple and relatively inexpensive ways of increasing horsepower (chips, remaps etc)? I've seen them available for the earlier old bumper style mini but none for mine. Also is it wise to monkey about with the car when it's so new and still has plenty of warranty left on it? Any advice would be much appreciated.....thanks

remap the ecu £300 from superchips or site sponser lohen which is really close to you the will do this on site inc ind kit for £350 is ind kit £70 ish you will see a dramatic performance increase and the power will have no flatt spots & when you reach 4000rpm you will no where your went

Bluefin or the AMD One-click both do the same job... they can both be removed in around 2-3 minutes before taking to the dealers to avoid warranty issues.

Induction kit can be a bit noisy depending on taste... if it is too noisy, go for a replacement panel filter. K&N do a good one, or MINI Coopers by Mini Mania sell a foam one for the '05/'06 spec Cooper.

Thanks, I like the sound of those...

Do I lose much fuel economy with the changes (I gues it depends on how hard I drive it)..I'm only getting 31.9mpg at the moment!

All depends how you drive in normal driving probably not much difference if not improved but when you push harder it will use slightly more fuel than before but with these mods you'll prob not notice.

I appreciate the advice...I'll probably go for the Lohen kit but I'm amazed that I only get an extra 10 - 15 bhp for £365!!

The Cooper putting out 115bhp is already fairly good for a normally aspirated 1.6l engine...

The best things you can do for power is concentrate on the key engine systems. For instance, starting with the engine management by getting a blufin. Then air intake system by replacing the filter, and if you're hard core a bigger throttle body. Then the ignition system... performance plugs, leads, coil pack and a plasma booster... then the exhaust....

The list is endless really... but changing all those bits will see you up into the 145-150bhp region...

...oh and don't forget to use decent fuel - no more 95 RON stuff

Blimey! If I go and spend all me money on those mods my girlfriend will leave me..I think I'll keep it fairly simple for now....cheers!

Blufin claim about 8bhp tbh. They give a figure of 131 on their before and after dyno charts but in the before their car gets 123bhp in standard form.

Oh and the Blufin you want is £299 from Lohen, not the £350 one.

Have never seen too much feedback from people with Blufinned Coopers as everyone that posts good reports on here seems to have a one.

Have you driven one that's had the Blufin upgrade carried out? If so do you notice any real difference?

My Cooper has a One-Click - effectively the same as the Bluefin!

Best £300 I ever spent! The car is much more responsive, smoother, no dead spots in acelleration. You don't feel the power increase so much, but the car does pick up much better.

Ditto. Moved into this office this morning. Yours is so clean.

Good luck with the Blufin if you choose that route. Would probably have been my choice if I hadn't gone the JCW route.

Oh and we should meet sometime.

my 2002 cooper was chipped via superchips and added with a K&N panel filter plus being driven hard since day one.. it kept up with an S on MINI Runs... you do notice the difference.. not only in power but torque too

Deffo Mate

It's a pain to keep the back of them clean in this weather, especially in PW...they just attract crap

I'm not in a rush to get the Blufin but will let you know when I do so you can try it out one lunch time.

Every thread i've read on this says there ACE,bluefin and Mth seem to be most popular, reverseable for warranty service and makes the car drive so much better as it dose'nt create lots of power but makes it more linear pulling from lower rpm while addressing the prob of the RPM hovering when u come off the throttle,i would already have one in mine had i not blew the cash on a new steering pump before xmas.
