How do i know if my GTT intercooler snoot boots are leaking boost?

I have fitted my new GTT intercooler snoot boots to my GRS intercooler and wounderd how i can be sure i have no leaks. The car seems fine but i want to be sure ive got no loss of boost. The clamps are set over the correct areas although the wider boot does seem a little wide and therefore sits furher on the intercooler than the OE boots.but i guess if the clamps are in the correct place that wont matter.
So does anyone know,?cheers guys

Well I suppose one way to check for minor leaks is to fit a boost gauge, but then you need to know what boost pressure you should be peaking at in the first place.

Put soapy water all over the seals where you suspect there are leaks. If there is an air leak you'll get bubbles and water spitting from the leak. It's pretty obvious when there are leaks! Most notable is a dodgy idle where the revs 'hunt' when coming to a stop.

Cheers,

Henry

Dodgy idle is the main indicator

Hi , yes dodgy idle or hissing or low boost are all good indicators. Another easy test is with the car at idle, spray brake cleaner or carb cleaner around the edges . Any change in idle as you spray indicates a leak. -Also useful for checking for minor leaks in the intercooler core . -Just spray all over the intercooler . If the clamps are positioned correctly the SB's wont leak even on the GRS intercooler.

Roland will a supercharged car overboost like a turbo car can with boost leaks?

No it would underboost and run like a pig at idle. SC cars at WOT use all the boost , a turbo car can overboost only if you have a leak on the actuator supply hose . (heaven for tuning possibilitys, sadly ecu cutouts reduced throttle opening limp modes etc on modern cars make it not this simple)

Sorry mate, I just couldn't resist!

So the engine hunting thing if it happens regular is it normally caused by bioost leaks?! My S has started to develop a hunting on tickover, especially after a hard blast or a high revs blast on the motorway on cruise. Is it likely that the boots (OEM) are leaking or that I have boost issues elsewhere or is it more likely to be something else?!

Its not all the time, and a little rise in the throttle and then letting off or a blip seems to make it sort itself out, at least until the next time it stops

..probably not, they do that anyway. Its just the electronic idle speed stabilisation.

Thought that was the most likely explanation for mine, but good to hear it possibly confirmed by someone who knows a bit more about it. The Cooper didn't really do it but the S is far more prone, especially since having the panel filter and the mani and miltek cat back on it.
