the cheapest thing for you to start with would be to go for an induction kit....

for starters - maybe a k&n 57i - easy enough to fit yourself and expect to pay around £50 second hand

i dont know much about fitting aftermarket exhausts, but from what i understand, you cannot buy just a backbox and fit it onto the existing centre section.
Popular exhausts are Milltek or PlayMini....

~~please correct me if i am wrong guys~~~

I had a Jetex on my MINI One, looked great and popped nicely too...

Jetex Video

This particular exhaust was a back box type job... it just involved cutting the centre pipe and slotting the Jetex on the end

It is possible to change just the backbox

Its not possible to 'change' the backbox on a MINI as the exhaust from the cat joint back to the tails is a single section. It is however possible to 'cut' the back back off and fit a backbox section on. These are usually not that much less than some exhausts though. The miltek on the ONE/Cooper is only about £250 anyhow and you can fit it yourself with ease....fitting a backbox only involves cutting and welding...not so easy to do on a driveway!

I'd advise a Milly or playmini catback exhaust and a K&N open cone filter if its noise your after. If you actually want power then consider a CAI or some description or a homemade conversion of the standard airbox, by opening up a hole in the base and through to the scuttle panel and then fitting a KN or Piper panel filter in the box.

if its just noise your after iv heard the HKS sounds awsome but i think it mite b expensive.
Best option for great noise is probly just to go to powerflow and they can custom make them as loud as you want for not that much but i dont no the quality is like in terms rusting

id stay away from chopping yours up and adding a back box! your best to just get a cat back and do the job properly!

just my opinion!
