Chip - Mini

Hi,

How can you tell if at all if a mini has been chipped and re mapped?

Or check where your rev limiter cuts in... most units such as a bluefin or one-click extend your rev limiter by say 500 rpm.

Check where your rev limiter should be set, and then test to see where yours cuts in.

Do we know if BMW can tell when it's in for a service?

I'm sure they could if they looked. Not sure if they would actually notice during a routine service though.

You can't tell. A dyno might show up something, but the only sure way is to read the ECU contents and compare it against the standard BMW/MINI version.

If you need it set to standard, a BMW/MINI garage can do this for you at a price.

Why do you need to know?

1666 is correct, there really is no commercial way to check.

Without a baseline, a dyno won't tell you anything.

Revlimiter is also hit and miss (lights on tach don't change) as it is hard to know "where" it cut in.

You could use Cartunes to download the current map and then open the fiel with notepad. At the bottom of the file (MTH for sure) there might be something telling you what map is running.

The service center can tell if you are running a map, but it is hard to tell and they have to be looking for it.

Yes, the MTH map has the 3 ASCII characters MTH at the end of the map file. The standard BMW file has BMW at the end.
