I don't think that its a matter of where is best with MTH. To my knowldge your only choice is either MTH direct or via the official UK dealer of EssentialMINI.co.uk, MINI, ONE, ONE D, COOPER, COOPER S and S WORKS , Performance And Design. MTH Dealer

Simon at essentialmini is probably your man to explain your available options on how to get on the car...he is based in the midlands (birmingham, Nottingham, Derby sort of way if I remember right)

Yep, Essential MINI is your best bet. It is pretty easy to do yourself ...

Simply plug your laptop into the car connected to the OBD cable (you have to buy, borrow, or rent). Fire up cartunes and download the file. E-mail it in (and pay) and within a few days you should have your MTH remap file that you simply upload to the ECU. Very easy....

If you wanted MTH, you can go to another vendor like Don at DMH Motorsports DMH Motorsports. He can and will sell to you and you would have the advantage of the pound/dollar conversion rate.

Is it possible to get a longer lead so you can run OBD cable from house PC to car?

Ummm cant see why not as you'll only need a com port extension cable.

Signal degradation will be the big issue here. It might be easier to actually move the PC to the car with an extension cord for the power.

Balls, not an easy task. Have an old laptop here, but doubt it would meet minimum system requirements.

Actually, old is fine. It is best to have minimum stuff on there anyway. You might want to use a serial OBD connector rather than the USB but that should matter as the transfer is not going to be any faster anyway. Cartunes is actually setup to work serial and it will run on Win98.
