Rogue Engineering Cold Air Intake

I'm assuming the stock box has to be removed to fit this intake? I think I read that you can't put the stock air box back once removed? Can anyone confirm? My Mini comes in around 2-3 weeks (September delivery) but as I am leasing I want to be sure I can put the car back to stock if I decide I'm not keeping it. It all depends on how the car holds up, however I still need to be sure I can put it back to stock.

Cheers,

Paul

Only the top half is removed...

And, yes, it can easily be returned to stock in about 3 minutes.

Paul,

Our Teutonic.ca store now carries Rogue products and we're Toronto based so it may make ordering a little easier.

Paul

We just started getting Rogue stuff... bear with us our club is a hobby and sometimes the site is slow for updates but you can always email any of us to get a quote on what you're looking for.

The site is car independent and is basically geared towards motorsports enthusiasts... and has regular information on auto-x and track events.

BTW, Alex will email you with pricing for the intake.

Could you e-mail with a cost for that unit.

Thanks,
Alec

Have any of you guys looked into the bmpdesign.com intake for the mini. it looks alot nice and they say it gave 12.9 hp on the dyno and if i remember right the cost of it is $ 169.00. I feel the price of the rogue one is a little steep.

I like the horsepower gain and I love the price but it looks like it isn't available yet, or is their website not been updated.

Ya, I don't see a price for that intake either Al. Hrm. $169 is pretty damn good compared to the Rogue though.

Spoke with BMP this week and said the filter should be in by the end of the month.Does the Rogue interfere with a strut bar?How much supercharger noise do you get with the Rogue??

Installed the Rogue CAI yesterday - it was very easy - it took longer getting the rubber sealing strip on the top of the heat shield than doing the rest of the install. The heat shield is nicely built - no cheap bent metal here! As Ben mentioned somewhere, it is easy to put back the original filter for regular services to limit warranty problems.

Now for the question - is there supercharger noise? Yes - it was worth getting just for the wonderful sound it makes! It is not obtrusive for normal driving and a magnificent howl at full throttle. I haven't had the radio on all day

It would interfere with a strut brace. The heat shield has a rubber top that seals against the hood when it is closed. The strut brace would cross over this so the shield would need cutting down. The rubber seal is a separate piece so it can be removed and put back on after cutting the shield. There is also a risk that the filter element would be in the way if the brace was too thick.

Any difference in performance?

to clarify some questions, which will probably be asked again:

- the stock intake can be replaced, with NO trace of it ever being changed, in less than 5-10 minutes with simple hand tools.

- our intake is not compatible with current strut tower braces, because to maximize the "box" we've gone all the way to the top of the hood. Therefore, in order to fit a strut tower brace with our intake, the shield must be modified. fortunately, 9.3whp gain is generally more benefitial than the questionable gains of a strut tower brace, so i anticipate many people opting to leave the shield alone. unless, of course, you're doing it for cosmetic reasons.

- as you can see from our pictures, our "box" is the largest possible area under the hood for the intake. we almost completely sealed out any and all hot engine air away from the filtered area with the full size heat shield and upper seal. covering only the top of a cone filter only blocks available air, but it's a way of keeping hot air out for those with this style of an intake. with underhood engine temps exceeding 140F, you MUST keep that hot air out otherwise intercooler effectiveness plummets.

beyond dyno figures, we've sold many of these intakes to customers and dealers and the results are all the same. real world driving, it's a hoot with gains you can feel. dyno figures can be misleading (how about spraying the intercooler with Freon to see a 20whp gain...it works, but it's not environmentally friendly) so don't always go by the number alone.

hope this helps.

Yes - I notice it most at normal driving speeds. The response from kicking down the trottle at 3k - 4k rpm is improved.

Another note ... the heat sield is available in silver or black and I went with the silver one. It looks good and the idea of a black heat shield seemed wrong to me - why make a heat shield using the color that transfers as much heat as possible? I have no idea whether the color makes a measurable difference.

The BMP intake makes more power. We tried both at the track and it went 2 tenths faster in the 1/4 mile with the BMP intake...........
