Drive by Wire

Could someone answer a question for me.
Are the MINI's Drive by Wire?

And if yes, would they always have been from 2001 or only on the new R56.

Was it a good answer ? Just wondering what your search told you ?

The MINI is Not a proper Drive by Wire Vehicle like some modern Aircraft, where almost every flight control is governed electronically & not by direct mechanical / hydraulic linkage.
Only with reference to its Electronic Throttle Control can the MINI be termed as such.

All other controls (including the electro-mechanical steering), remain Direct Linked in some way, operating without needing to get the go-ahead from a computer after the operator action is taken.

I'm pretty sure the throttle is DBW, but brakes and steering are conventional, an auto with paddle shifters is kindof though

The throttle on the MIN has always been electronically controlled

throttle is DBW but by law all cars must have steering wheels mechanically linked to front wheels!

The Vauxhall Corsa had the steering wheel linked to the front wheels by rubber bands on the rental car I drove the other day
