Offline | Cheapish simple power increase for my 163bhp I know this topic has been discussed over and over again but I wanted to get your opinions on a cheapish power increase for my dec 03 build mini cooper s (163bhp) I was thinking maybe a 15% pulley and shorter belt. What bhp would this give me? Then maybe a gtt reroute pipe to make it sound nicer? What would I be looking at for these? I dont want to fit anything myself as dont really have the time , expertise or equipment. Any help or other suggestions would be appreciated althought I dont want an induction kit or full exhaust system because I dont want the 'fully blown sound increase' Kind Regards Sam |

| MINI2 Regular | Quickest, cheapest and fastest would be the air filter. Cheap and easy would be a K&N panel to replace the existing one, a little more expensive and a little less easy would be a GTT cold ram kit. Both can be done yourself in no longer than 30 minutes. Probably give you 5-7 bhp, but more over a better noise. The re-route pipe will give you a bigger sound increase than the air filter change. If you are a little concerned over noise you could get a JCW airbox. It only opens up at around 4000rpm so noise is pretty much standard until you open up a bit. You can improve on the JCW airbox further by adding the GTT filter to it. The pulley is always a good idea. Takes you upto around 190bhp area, good idea to do it along with the air filter mod above. Remember to stick some colder spark plugs in too (irridium tip). No extra power from them but they remove the threat of a bit of pre-ignition. Could also try a remap. Jurys out on the figures you'll get back. GTT offer it but they also say stock ECU is just as good. MTH will tell you you can get 200bhp or so from just a remap, but take it with a pinch of salt! Some lesser appricated mods are new wheels, the standard 17" wheels on my S weigh a ton, I almost put my back out taking one off once. Get some lighter ones and you'll drastically decrease your unsprung weight. Also ditch the runflats. Get onto the net and get a set of toyo proxes or for a few £ more a set of Goodyear Eagle F1's Or save yourself the time and go for a GTT package, £700 for 210 bhp is pretty good! ![]() |
