Just fitted JCW air filter....

Had the JCW air filter fitted today (from a group buy on MINI2 ages ago) and I can't really hear/feel much difference. I know a flap is supposed to open at 4500 rpm whereby you should hear a change in sound but I don't really hear anything different. What is it supposed to sound like?

I only noticed the difference when I put a GTT filter in it, its louder, quicker, and drinks more fuel now!

You need a friend, to rev the engine to 4500rpm, then you can look using a mirror, or feel with your hand if it is open/ closed

You should notice a definite change in noise, I would get a noticable surge in power when it opened.

I now have the GTT filter upgrade, and have the flap permanently open.

sit still,

Hush,

Say nothing,

there can you hear it, ,........................... and again............................................. .........that time, you hear it?........................... no that was pin dropping....................listen again......................there you just missed it. Oh well.

That was fun.

Best whip it off and get a proper induction kit on it. Alta or GTT, both seem good then you'll hear it. Sorry thatsd your lot

I have the JCW motorsport filter, so no flap ! I noticed that the whine from the s/c was definitly louder, although theres no induction noise. Wedge the flap open permanently!

Definitely remove the flap & fit a free flowing filter element.
I went to a Alta & got more noise & more topend power but lost considerable low down torque & drivability, so i went for the modified JCW.
Persist with the JCW & you will get good results.

Hi have you sorted the issue with you JCW intake? just that when i had mine fitted I was the same as you, after a few arguments with my dealer who fitted the jcw air filter I went to another bmw dealer who found out that the first dealer had wired it up wrong therefore flap did not operate at 4500rpm. It is noticeable when working and I enjoy hitting 4500rpm everytime i drive my cooper s

Regards

James

No I haven't been able to check yet, I don't know where this flap is exactly.

Hi

The arrow on the photo points to where you need to look. You can put your fingers down where the arrow is pointing and you should be able to feel where the flap is located. Once you have found this get someone to take the engine up just past 4500rpm and you should feel the flap open. If you do not feel the flap open then it is not operating and I would suggest you take it back to where you had it fitted for them to check the wiring.

Hope this helps
