Throttle Bodies

Hi.

Anybody any experience with modifying the throttle body of a Cooper S.

I'm in the situation were I dont want to go to the hassle of a supercharger pulley change and a remap, but after driving the GP I would like a little more get up and go out of my 04 Cooper S. Would this cause problems, giving the engine too much air?

Was looking at lohens special offer this month, and was wondering is it a fairly easy modification, or is it hard to remove the throttle body?

Also would I achieve any gains in performance by taking the stock item to a local Motorsport preparation company that tunes Formula Ford engines and rally cars and having it ported?

Failing that what other modifications are there that are reasonably priced, reliable and fairly stealth or undetectable come resale time?

I already have a JCW/GTT Hybrid Airfilter, JCW exhaust and a GRS intercooler.

I would plump for the basic GTT or Lohen upgrades if it wasnt for the fact that theres a big bit of water to cross for fitment.

Miimal gain, £ per bhp you really need to get a pulley. That will be more worthwhile and for say £900 you could have your Cooper S as quick as a GP. Look on GTT's site, or even lohen do the 200/210 conversion.

you'd be best opting for the pully... the throttle body will not produce that mmuch extra noticible power...

EMPTY SPACE NEEDS FILLING....

I'd second that, you only notice a difference with the larger bore throttle bodies on modified S engines and then there is no BIG gain,if you look at most of the 200bhp mark packages, thet will not include the throttle body, As already said the pulley is the best and cheapest way to get a NOTICABLE difference.

The throttle body would just be a waste of money as you wont get any noticable difference, the pulley is the way forward,or if you dont want it that quick then a decent CAI or a Manifold are great mods for the S

Any good garage can fit a pulley and a induction kit plus colder plugs you don't have to go to a tuner £900 ? lets break the prices down. Alta pulley £120. you will also need a puller for your pulley £70. Alta induction kit £180 . cold plugs £34. and you can sell the puller for £50 when your finished. minus £50 for puller parts total £354. labour £140 at my local garage £495. saving £395 don't let them blind you with science and big words i fitted all my own stuff to my GP... and its goin real good.

And a pulley belt LOL And fitment by experts!
I too have fit most of mods...Manifold,Plugs,Leads,CAI,Intercooler,JCW Brakes, but i would not touch pulleys, camshafts heads etc as i dont have the experience and it has to be right,a good friend of mine is a trained mechanic, but i took my car to MiniMania to have my camshaft fit as my friend does not work on minis! So what is the price of piece of mind......Priceless!
I certainly wouldnt let no one touch my car without previous experience of doing these mods almost everyday!

Id 3rd or even 4th the idea of a pulley for the first MOD and colder plugs, if it is the first mod.

Im not the most mechanical minded person but it was the first and most reasonable mod for me.
