Performance upgrading question

I have a 2006 MINI Cooper S automatic and wanted to upgrade my intake and exhaust system.

I want to go with the JCW cold air intake and either a Borla/MagnaFlow exhaust system. I noticed for a few more $$$ the JCW intake can also come with new fuel injectors and a new ECU programming as a kit. Will I need the fuel injectors and a ECU programming with the upgrades I will be doing?

(I will probably remove the flap on the air intake)

Also my dealership told me with the intake and exhaust is as far as I can go with upgrading the performance on an automatic is this true

First, be advised that any "upgrades aka mods" that you do could void your warranty. It is a "you pay to play" situation unless you stick with dealer installed JCW.

You do not need the injectors but could put them on and upgrade the ECU to take advantage of them.

Typically intakes and exhaust don't affect warranty which is probably why you were told that was all you could do, but to be honest, you could do a pulley and pretty much a lot of the other mods that folks do as well.

What are you trying to achieve with your upgrades?

I guess you could say I want more of a sound with a little extra HP. I thought of the pulley but I won't touch it until my warranty is up. I think having an upgraded intake and exhaust would satisfy me enough. I don’t race I just like to get on the pedal once and a while when at a stop.

I’m not too sure what I would benefit from fuel injectors and the ECU programming (I really don’t know anything about it). If its something I won’t notice then I probably could do without unless if its healthier for the MINI.

I don't want to spend more then $2,000 for parts and installation.

If that is what you want, then that is what you will get. More air in and out will give you a little more HP (not much) and the Borla will give you a better sound.

Those mods should not affect your warranty at as they are pretty common aftermarket parts.

I wouldn't bother with the injectors or ECU until you get out of warranty.

obviously theres the warrantee thing...some dealers are OK some not.

Its not true that you have to have a map for those mods.

Its also not true that intake and exhaust is all you can do. Even on the auto you can have a reduced pulley on the charger

The injectors and ECU remap is intended as an upgrade for cars with a 200 bhp JCW Engine Tuning Package. These injectors can also be used with a 19% reduction supercharger pulley and a GIAC ECU remap.
