Is JCW pulley harder to remove than stock?

Im changing the setup of my 03 JCW from 3% crank pulley to stock CP and 17% supercharger pulley, just to see how it goes, plus im seriously considering nitrous in the near future and think the standard CP will handle that better (could be wrong!)

Anyway, the dealer (who has always looked after me) tells me the pulley will need to be cut off. They dont have a pulley removing tool. A friend changed his pulley at the dealers with a removal tool which apparently bent and still needed to be cut off.

Anyway, lots of folks are swapping stock pulleys, just wondering if the JCW pulley is harder to remove than stock which is why when you upgrade you get a complete new charger? Dont really want it cut off as would like to put it back on if i prefer the 3% CP setup.

The puller is likely to wreck the pulley whether it's stock or JCW (yes I know it looks no different, but is was an interference fit so pulling it off will mean it will never go back on securely), so how much extra boost are you hoping to get with the standard CP and 17% pulley compared with the smaller CP and JCW item?.

Hi there,I changed the stock supercharger pulley for a Alta 15% reduction, this is the latsest mk11 type,I had a brand new supercharger that i got from ebay, and had one hell of a job removing the pulley from it,even using a hydraulic puller on it it failed to remove it,in the end i had to heat up the pully and then pull it of,it sure is one hell of a interference fit. There is no way that the Alta removal tool will remove a std pully from the supercharger shaft.

Cheers for that guys, wont waste money on pulley puller then, will just get it cut off.

Not sure about extra boost from doing this, I expect it to be much the same to be honest but thinking of fitting a nitrous kit later in the year and feel the stock crank pulley would be better for this with the dampner. I could be wrong though!

With all the other gear going on I should be getting more power than i had anyway.

Crank pulley is the least of your concerns if you plan to fit nitrous.
Forged pistons are a must, then there's decent ARP rod bolts, upgraded fuel pump, fuel lines & injectors, a new ECU such as a Motec to run it all correctly, upgraded valve springs & retainers, & then theres the plumbing for the NOS, upgraded clutch etc etc etc...& it goes on from there, be prepared to spend BIG $'s & break plenty of parts.
Good luck with it.

yeah a few folk have told me that, though M7 do a kit specifically for MINI with all the bits and bobs, to be honest i will likely be happy with all the latest mods for a year or so anyway. I think if i still want more power a turbo conversion may be the better option.

I will let you know how the puller goes, surely a small amount of heat applied whilst the pulley is appling pressure the pulley should let go, without damaging the SC seals?
do you remove the SC to cut the pulley off?

when do you expect your ALTA parts?

cheers

Why would you change from a JCW pulley (14.5%) to an Alta 17%???
You'd be lucky to get 1-2 pounds more boost.
If you want more power there are plenty of other more effective & easier means.
Oh & my standard pulley came off with pulley tool & theres not a mark on it.

Fitted ALTA 17% to my JCW with no problems, modified the ALTA pulley removal tool to fit the JCW pulley and machined a puller came off in one piece!
No heating and no cutting or hydraulics.......

I dont know if I am being silly but would you not do better to remove the JCW blower with the pulley on and get another blower off ebay with Teflon coated fins and then sell your on ebay, I would have though it would cover the cost of the conversion? I know I would be willing to pay up to £200 for a JCW blower...
