JCW Y PIPE Inlet Query

Hi Everyone,
This is my first post so be nice. I have a question to anyone who has JCW kit on their Cooper S. I have just put a deposit on a 2005 Cooper S Chilli that has a JCW Kit and during the inspection of the car noticed that just before the exhaust splits in to two pipes before the mufflers, there is an odd shaped section of pipe, almost like it has been squashed. I have searched the forum for answer but couldn't find any. Could someone have look under their car and see what this section looks like for me. Thanks.

Hi mark
you would be better asking the question in engine and drivetrain tuning forum, no doubt a mod will move this. Welcome to MINI2, where are you from

Mark, it's just flat at the Y join. Everything else is cylindrical..

Don't some of the rag tops have a flatterned section in the exhaust?

This pipe is standard after 04 and it is there for the cabrio model as it has a strut brace under there. I have a JCW 2006, I took mine to a local exhaust place and had them replace it with a straight S/S pipe.....

Yes, rather than make one exhaust for the hatch and one for the cabrio they make one that fits both. The flattened section is so it fits over the extra strengthening on the cabrio. Before the cabrio came out, this section of pipe was round.

It was acceptable in the 80's
