Exhaust Tempretures??

Guys

Anyone know the sorts of temps the exhaust on an S has to cope with. Want to know wether I can use a silcone sealant on it bu the various ones have diofferent heat ranges...what sort of max temp do I have to ensure the sealant can deal with?

Ta

On my mates Mini cooperS after a good thrashing the break discs, manifold and cat were glowing orange, it will have to cope with ver high temperatures even with normal driving.

Easyest thing to do is get the sealant with the highest temperature rating

So something that can deal with 500 should be alright then I guess. Shes only running around 220 brake and its just to seal the gasket joints and the centre pipe on my milly. Exhaust assembly paste seems to be a load of *****

I would imagine so.... i was wondering why you wer not using exhaust paste but if youve tried it this may be a better option.

Hi silicon sealants will murder the 02 sensors, even cat to catback flange is a bit risky, further back still should be ok.

Whats suggested as the best way to seal the joints on the milly manifold/exhaust system then...exhaust paste, silcone and a gasket, just a gasket or exhaust paste with a gasket? Thoughts guys as I need to try and do something before sunday if I can manage it.

How is the joint at the cat an issue roland as the o2 sensor is upstream by quite a bit. Is it a situation of vacuum sucking bit onto the sensor as gas flow from the engine drops on overrun or something?

Hi Richard, it may be fine but the second sensor is pretty close to that flange although as you say downstream. The Miltek gaskets are pretty good, see if they will supply you a couple of new ones. Also check both flanges for flatness with a straight edge.
As a second choice 'used' Miltek gaskets with a thin smear of exhaust sealant paste on both sides .
Best Regards Roland GTT
