Got a new gear box and clutch fitted a few months ago and was wondering what model it was, as i know there is a midland one, which was the one that failed alot from what i read and a newer model.

Cars build date is 0ctober 2002, gear box failed at around 35000 miles

Just spoke to bmw and the gear box part no fitted was GS5 65BH TPNB

Looking on realoem here the model number fitted was discontinued in 2004, is this the midland one, or the updated one??

Would have thought BMW put in the latest gearbox though, and not put in a discontinued gearbox?

Oh right, could they have fitted the new one in my car? Not really on is it.. is that company policy, or should they have fitted a new one because of the problems associated with the midland?

Midland to Getrag (the later box) is a big job. See here.

Plus most companies offer like for like warranties at best. Hope the new box works out for you.

I wish it was under warranty. Have had the car from new, and at first they wanted to charge full wack, around 3k, but then after speaking to BMW HQ and explaining that my brothers mini gearbox failed at around 12k they charged me for only half of the labour costs.

Gearbox is still like new, however i just wanted to know..

I guess there is a warranty on the new gearbox that was fitted, if so for how long would it be for?
