Problems with alta CAI

Hi everyone, I just installed ALTA CAI 2.0 on my 2004 MCS, but I am not sure the instalation went completley right. What happened is that when I reinserted the original air inlet which goes to the base of the lower portion of the original air box the hose disconnected from the throttle body, so when I started the car and gave it some gas it sounded like the engine was gasping for air, so I turned off, and checked the instalation, saw what had happened and then I made sure it was conected right. Now it seem to work just fine when the car has reached itīs opertaing temperature, but I now have some trouble when the car is cold, since it sometimes feels like the engine is going to die, the revs go down and the computer struggle to keep it going, that al goes away when the engine is warm, but I cant stop thinking its something about the instalation, which I have checked 4 times now, do anybody else have this problem?? I havent used the car much for fear that I might damage the engine. The engine is almost stock, just with a 15% pulley (alta) and NGK iridium plugs, and teh highest quality fuel is 91 ron.

Any comments or suggestions would be greatly apreciated....

I appologize for the english since itīs not my first language...

Thanks

91?? That's not too good... I think it's best to use a much higher octane for pulley mods etc... Maybe as the smaller pulley is spinning the S/C faster the ECU compensates... but with the lower octane fuel has problems...

I know I had a similar problem when my disconnected, but it turned out to be a faulty Pressure sensor. Not sure if the pressure sensor got damaged after it was running without that pipe attached.

But that pipe puts in dirty air from the engine (sorry not sure of the techincal term) so if the ECU is running thinking the air is cleaner than it was, and now its not as clwan as it was, the ecu may have adapted, and not adapted back.

Maybe an idea to reset the ecu/disconnect the battery.

Only an idea though, wait for more experienced feedback, as I'm no expert on this area.

I'm pretty sure that Mexico work on the same scale as the US, and 91 is the equivellant to either 95 or 97 in the UK

about the octane rating, i think you are right because in the us I believe the highest octane rating is 91 or 92, so that may translate to 95 in the uk.

I drove the car yesterday and when I pressed the gas it gave a kind of a whistle, I may be just being paranoid here, but have any of ALTA CAI users perceived the same sound? Itīs a small whistle-like sound that is mostly percieved the moment you press the gas, then later after you rev it a little it goes away.

Iīll check the installation again today, I better get it right because tomorrow Iīll be drag racing a new R56 MCS of a friend of mine, You guys wish me luck

Alta is notorious for the whistle sound.

Yep, the whistle is definitely a sound that comes with the ALTA CAI. Unless I'm mistaken you're actually hearing the sound of the throttle butterfly opening/closing/teetering coming up through your inlet pipe.

well now that I have gotten used to the whistle sound and supercharger whine I can say that I absolutly adore it, the sc whine is so adictive and the engine feel so more free-reving, the only downside is that now I keep reving it just to hear and feel the engine and the mpg has gone down, but I think I can live with that
