I was just torquing out of a bend earlier today and i got that gear whine noise that you hear on rally cars as they fire off into the distance on stage starts and battle through hairpins.

Just wondering if it is the quaife diff that makes the noise - it is an excellent noise

The Whining noise on rally cars is the Straightcut Final Drive Gear (also get it in Touring cars) as the speed increses so does the pitch of the whine

I'm pretty sure GTT260 will know this, but, Mini cooper S's have superchargers on them and they make a whiney noise.........lol

No doubt the ATB will whine, my mates Focus RS doe'snt.

Also wanna see a video of your car, as deciding whether its worth me going up to your spec and get my head done.

Yes, i am planning to make a vid of this car very shortly. Having now spent more than the price of a new Works MCS on modified parts, i think it only fair to start sharing its performance with a wider audience and not just annoyed 911 owners .

I've just bought a specialist microphone to get the best noise quality, but my camcorder packed in. I have a digi recorder but without a mic port. I also have one of those top-gear camera mounts... so it is not for want of trying that i fail. I'll see what i can achive this weekend though.....

GTT260 have you found out what the whine is as i dont think its a sound you should be hearing if it is coming from the diff?????

My Quaife used to whine intermittently, and it depended entirely on the entry speed to a corner and how much engine braking I used/ was using at the time. It didn't do it all the time though, but when it did it was pretty cool

straight cut dog box is where the whine and chatter on a rally car comes from. Just listen to a proper supped up classic mini and some folks (me included) did this mod to there Cooper Ss
