Offline | Palo Uber Carbon Scoop Help Hi All, I just purchased a Palo Uber carbon scoop (not the big, the smaller refined carbon one)... I was hoping that someone may be able to help out, if they have one... The website says that installation is easy, just undo the 4 bolts holding in the stock trim ring and then drop in the new one, bob's your uncle! In the package that I received it states in the install instructions that: "You should discard the oval plastic underhood bonnet protector that connects directly to the back of the standard trim ring" further down it says: "We highly recommend you discard the plastic underhood bonnet protector connecting to your factory scoop, if you do leave this in you should cut off the plastic oval that connects to the rear as this will not allow full efficiency of this product" I take this as being the large black plastic protector that has the foam seal that sits on top of the intercooler - it connects by 2 phillips screws near the back of the bonnet and to the 2 bolts on the rear of the trim ring? I have a MY05 MCS and this piece is one whole mould...? I can understand that the oval mouth would be removed to allow the extra air flow, but don't understand why they would want to discard it all together? If I close the bonnet with the Palo scoop in place without the foam etc underneath, you can shine a torch in to the scoop and basically see everything under the bonnet as it is not defined to the IC... Would this be right? Would the foam not be required anymore to seal a cavity around the IC grill to allow direct air shot? I have sourced a second under bonnet protector (luckily for free) and have cut majority of the oval it talks about away, this seems less restrictive on the entry to the scoop. I just want to make sure I have the maximum effiency in this scoop... I know many think its ugly LOL, but I think its kinda cool and in Aus where I have never seen one of these, it sets the individuality that little higher! Great finish on the carbon fibre! I have tried calling Palo Uber but can never seem to get anyone on the phone! Only a voice mail to which they don't reply! Offline | Hi Todd, I installed the Palo Uber big fiberglass scoop on my 06 MCS recently. You are correct about the instructions... remove the plastic underbonnet protector, unbolt the OEM scoop, and screw in the PU scoop. That's it! I have not found a need to divert or force air directly into my stock IC, but I am thinking of adding a metal grille at the back end of the scoop to avoid rocks or debris from entering the engine compartment. I also added a CAI at the same time, and I've noticed that I can hear the supercharger spinning much more clearly with the hood scoop acting as a resonator of sorts... I love hearing it spin : ) I agree, getting in contact with PU can be difficult, but I had a nice 15min phone call followup to an email with Bryce, so they do try to make sure customers are taken care of. From my limited experience, I shared your concerns as well, but found my temps to be stable and not any higher than before my mods. I see you are in Oz, and here in Arizona, our temps are easily in the 40s. I've done a couple fast cross-state runs across the desert into California, and some of the mountain roads in our state; I had no problems, and a nice strong ride. The scoop is definitely a polarizing issue; you either love it or hate it. Funnily enough when unsure about something like this, it never seems to go 'that well' until you are 100% sure you've got it right! It'll go far better now ![]() Good to hear that the car performs in similar climates, in the hotter months (4/5's of the rest of the year) we are 35 deg cel plus so similar conditions... ![]() MINI2 Regular | I just installed one into my works, and to be honest, while the scoop itself looks extraordinary, the idiot who made it should be shot. The scoop requires you to remove your air dam which forces air down the intercooler, simply because whoever made the mould, couldn't be bothered to go to the extra hassle of tooling the female receptacle to the air dams male oval shape. The solution? Keep the dam in place, but dremel off the oval shaped extension at the front that connects to the old scoop. This leaves your dam (The U shaped foam) in place to get as much air as possible down into the intercooler, and allows you to also fit the scoop. You end up with only 2 screws left, the ones down at the bottom of the dam, and the main flat area of the dam can be held in place with clear silicone sealant. If it's done properly, it will look fine. |

| Supercharger Noiseaholic | That's pretty shocking, especially when you consider GRS supply a better air-dam with their intercooler, but if you fit the paulo uber scoop you lose the ability to funnel the air into the intercooler. Isn't that a bit like fitting the worlds best aerodynamic kit to your car but attaching it all on swivel brackets! |

Offline | Thanks for the post Ned... I have been driving around for some time with the air dam removed as per previous posts. I must say that with the scoop the overall effect was better than stock.. I have put the modified air dam back in and can say it definitely goes better...
