Top & Bottom Strut Brace Fitted - Road Noise

Hi,
A couple of weeks back I had some Eibach springs fitted to the Cooper and to compliment them I have today fitted an OMP Upper and Lower Front Brace too.

Took it for a drive and it feels really good, nice crisp turn in and more controlled.

But the point is I did notice the road noise was more evident, is this the norm when fittng braces due to the fact your fixing suspension/chassis points together?

I'm running 17" Dunlop Runflats if that makes a difference.

Cheers,

I've got the OMP upper and lower strut braces on my car, although with standard suspension and non-runflat tyres, and personally I didn't notice a difference in road noise. Although with mine being a cabrio there was probably more road noise to begin with anyway

I wonder to what extent the Eibachs and Runflats may contribute to road noise? I've never had either so I can't compare.

one thing I did do was remove the sound deading from under the bonnet to give a bit of clearance for the top brace, could be contributing to the noise.

Did you get 4-wheel alignment done after fitting the braces? Wondered if I've knocked the settings out by undoing the lower bolts to cause the noise?

I'll have a longer drive tomorrow and see how it feels/sounds.

Upper & lower braces ,its going to be like driving on rails. I had both with sport + sus never noticed the road noise.Maybe your listening to much ,instead of going into the corners quick. LOL

...it's the runflats. They are dire.

Cheers,

I removed my sound deadening too, but then my upper strut brace started rubbing on the bonnet, so I've now put a small pad on each side where the two make contact.

My braces were fitted by the guys at Lohen and I don't think any wheel alignment was done... but I'm not sure.

Let us know what you think after your longer drive.. If anything I would be tempted to change to normal tyres when you next need a set, as like GTT 270, I'm not a fan of runflats. I would have thought doing this should help reduce road noise slightly, and it might also take a little harshness out of the ride.

Been for a longer drive today and happy to say all sounds OK, I think it was just me being a bit paranoid .

It really does handle like it's on rails now, with long sweeping A-road bends a real buzz to drive through. Found myself pushing a little harder through roundabouts too .

I've also placed a foam pad on the strut brace to stop contact with the bonnet, but called onto my local car shop and found some self-amalgamating (I think) tape which looks really robust, works upto 300C and only sticks to itself. Thought it might finish it off and protect a bit better on that contact point (a bit like Lohens pics).

Try it out tomorrow and let you know how it goes
