United-Kingdom How to get 200 BHP?

Hi All,

What's the best conversion for approx 200 BHP from a Cooper S (mine's an 04 163 BHP) and how much.

Also, what's the cheapest way of doing it?!

Thanks
Jon

Jon,

You might check out Roland (GT TUNING PERFORMANCE Posh Mini Styling)

His tunes are pretty good. That being said, are you going to do the work yourself?

Don put together some realistic numbers. You are really about 152 to at the wheels, check below.

Thats what we usually see with a pre teflon blower, though Dons is testing an 05/06 car . A 15% pulley and ex manifold will give you the most return for your £ spent.

We can dyno your Mini before and after any mod as we do work with customers who wish to slowly modified there Minis to suit there budgets as well as seeing gains on each step.

200bhp will never be enough trust me once you start down this road you need to be really disciplined and know when to stop!

I said I wanted 210....................I'm now at 230 and still looking for more!!!

As mentioned above - try GTT - can't recommend them enough.

Good luck.

A 15% pulley (Alta, GTT etc)
Colder plugs (Just to be safe)
Good CAI (Alta or GTT)
Exhaust (more for the sporty noise not much power)
GRS Intercooler

Your well on your way!

I would think 200 hp easy from those.

Stick a manifold on and you could be heading 210-230

I friend of mine got 210ish from his '04 MCS with only a super charger pulley and a custom ECU map - oh and a replacement air filter...

(To compare, my JCW originally managed only 192hp on the same dyno without ECU map (they installed std MCS ECU map by mistake), afterwards my JCW as standard was about the same as his).

Hi Richard, What does GRS stand for?

I'm just looking for 200 BHP at the flywheel.

Cheers

What are the downsides to the 17 or 19% pulleys?

There have been many "internet" studies (and a few others) that say the 17 and 19 percent pulleys put too much stress on the SC and cause too much heat thus actually lowering your overall boost. 15 was a good round number as it is not much smaller than the JCW and provides a nice even boost at all ranges.

I would say that 200 is easily available at the flywheel. I would recommend the pulley, CAI, Catback and then a remap to round it out.

Its GRS Motorsport Intercooler to give it its full name. GRS are the initials of the companies boss Graham, Do a search on MINI2 for it, Lohen and I think MiniMania both sell them off of here (Site Sponsors)

Thats awesome results!

Im hoping for that figure with my mods and i have a few more on the car so fingers crossed!

I think a Pulley, Manifold and CAI will be a good first few steps!

Little of topic.....

1320.... Im having a change of location on the job scene to Cambridge from 5th November so ill be a common customer to the rolling road as soon as im there and to the GRS "see how good it is" session!

I cant wait.

Dont forget the GRS is track proven as well to a tune of 2/10ths and 2 mph in the real world, we keep trying to make it not work but it does every time.

Its biggest gains is in the upper rpm range.

Look forward to seeing you ScottyBoy230

all tho i have one of the latest supercharged mini's before they switched to turbos so the mep in mine isone of the best omp maps

Disclamer: other peoples results may vary from mine! some may make more some prob wont!

yeah and every rr tells a different story. 224 bhp from a standard s with a larger intercooler, smaller pulley and induction? Is that all you have changed on your car?

If so, I doubt very much 224bhp is what it flies, but hey, who knows.
