Offline | Well, it depends which Cooper S you have. I do not think there are any tailor made induction kits for the latest R56 model as of yet but this will change very soon. K&N's and PiperCross' are a good choice, just a have to wait a little more. If you want an instant solution, there is always the universal one from K&N. If you have an older version of the Cooper S, there should be plenty choices! |

Offline | If you want roar then you need an open cone filter, such as a KN typhoon etc etc. This will however probably loose you power due to its capacity to suck in warm engine bay air! If you have an R53 S (older type) then you wont get roar..the inlet and supercharger drown out anything with whistle and whine. If you have R56 then you stand a better chance of roar as the turbo doesn't get effected as much by the intake...againopen cones give you roar but often loose power in the bay of an S due to heat from forced induction units. Shielded intakes with open cones in are the way to go but you loose some of the suck and roar noise. I have an R53 MCS and run an Alta CAI in mine...its deafening as it goes by cos the charger and throttle body cause huge whine and whistle due to the intake ![]() Last edited by Richard Crofts : Aug 30th, 2007 at 09:46 AM. |

![]() Addicted to MINI... | You will do, just wont be that easy to hear because of the whine. Youre actually in the gen 2 forum, search the gen 1 as theres alot more there about induction kits. Id think there are kits available from most major manufacturers for the R53 (pipercross, green, k&n, alta) The general rule seems to be if you want noise go with k&n but if you want performance go with pipercross...best of luck ![]() |

| Banned | Ive had the pipercross and then the k&n typhoon on my mcs. I now have the alta and it is by far the best one out of the ones ive had. Much better design too. The gtt one is a similar design. My first mini was a cooper and i put the pipercross induction kit on it and I got the roar and it sounded amazing. When i got my new mcs the first thing i did was put an induction kit on and was expecting the same roar but just got more supercharger noise which isnt a bad thing. I then added a milltek catback which gave it more bark. The best thing for the mcs in terms of a deep roar noise is a manifold. I have the gtt one and it sounds like a monster i love it. By far the best mod in terms of sound for the mcs. |

Offline | I have not heard one R53 Cooper S filter that roars like the n/a engine ones for Cooper. They all whistle/whine. That whistle/whine is so loud outside that theres not induction roar to be heard really. The typhoon is more open than the altas and GTT so may roar a bit more but I think under load the charger and suck/whistle of the throttle will drown any roar even on the KN system. Mine didn't roar until I got the exhaust/manifold ![]() |

Offline | Gruppe M There is the fantastic Gruppe M RAM air intake... full carbon fibre. Costs a lot, but it's the only actual system I would trust. All other systems (cone) will absorb the hot air from the engine bay, thus probably reducing performance. If you're just looking for sound, a cone filter will do... GruppeM - RAM AIR SYSTEM - APPLICATION for AMERICAN & EUROPEAN CAR it's the last on the list for the R56. Regards, valent |

Offline | The GTT and alta are just as good IMO....you have to do some home tweeking on the Alta to make the fit/seal good enough to really shield it from heat....but if you open the whole scuttle pannel up to get cold air it really doesn't struggle...plus an ocari pollen vent scoop would probably help drag some extra air in ![]() |

Offline | Does it actually give you extra air? There is quite a bit of discussion on NAM about those scoops actually providing less air, but I cant remember what it was all about. |

Offline | Alta makes a top to seal their air box from underhood heat. The Alta intake is open to the cowl area so I'm not sure what you mean by "opening the whole scuttle panel". I've not read anything proving the Ociari scoops are good for anything other than "looks". |

Offline | TBH Bhozar me and Dave had a discussion on this and after thinking about it for a bit I think we decided the ocari vents could go either way. Yes there might be some extra air pulled in by the scoop....but its possition there on the scuttle in front of the screen means it probably sits in a bit of an air flow void (created as air lifts to pass over the screen). We think that the swirling air in that area might not get caught by the scoop lip....so it could be a 50/50 on which way the scoop needs to face! Therefore you might be just as well of or possibly better to just leave the pollen vent as is....But I'm never one to say go do/not do something until I have done it....so I may order one from somewhere and do some very very basic tests....Like I have with my M7 scoop (which seems, on initial tests to cool my stock IC far better than a normal scoop....but its a terrible fit and finish so needed huge amounts of tweaking and is defo not to everyones tastes .... Especially Lucky and Ades!) |

Offline | Mine too for now, has so many different sounds depending on how you drive, from a low growl to a hollow roar as you accelerate harder. Tunnels...wow. The young lad loves it as it sounds nice and racy, surprised he hasn't had me stopped by the guards yet (the 4-year-old in the back made me do it Guard). It has harmed my fuel economy, but that's my fault. ![]() What new bits? I didn't buy any new bits... |
