Rolling Road & 1/4 mile mph horsepower

BRM Cooper 06 Cooper S is a fine example of how these two can tie up in giving very similar numbers.

The Mini with Rob in it weighed 2700lbs & 100.99 achieved at the British Mini Showdown are the figure you need to type in to here;

ET-MPH-HP Calculator

As you will see it made 228BHP

The best we've seen on our dyno is 224bhp this was with a Alta V215%, Alta V2CAI, JCW 4-2-1 and GRS IC.

Drag Racers across the world use these and even more complicated computer programs to predict ET and Mph with great success.

I believe that the dragstrip is the only place in Motorsport where you can accuratley calculate horsepower, unless you know different.

Yes because Graham from the Santa Pod tech crew will be there with the corner scales courtesy of 1320autos.com so we will be able to take your weight and mph and calculate your horsepower.

We really need someone with an untouched Cooper S to particpate as well so we can be able to see the differences, it would be nice if there was a pre July 04 and a post July 04 vehicles running up the strip.

I suppose you'll be wanting a go with the GRS as well

Yeah! i would love a go with the GRS but the thing is i dont have the money to buy one just yet but, if you have a spare one kicking about that you wouldnt mind bolting on to my car for the run i really wouldnt mind! lol

A friend of mine has a bog standard MCS which is a 52 plate, i am seeing him tonight so will ask him if he want to participate!

I just rembered Big Show dynod at 182.5BHP and weighed inat 2989lbs and went 88.98 at Mini in the Park which equals 173BHP on the Wallace calculator.

If Big Show had gone 90.58mph this would of been equal to 182.5BHP at 2989lbs

Yup the weather predictions look good at the moment, dont forget to be there early get signed on and car in the que, because on a rwyb track (street tyres) a virgin track is usually the best track.

http://www.eurodragster.com/timing/2...r%20Street.xls

If you go on the above link you will see all the runs that the Super Street class made on the Thursday of the Euro Finals.

Row 66 time 15.10

60ft 2.4531
330ft 5.7452
660ft 8.3792
mph 92.57
990 10.5830
1/4 12.5943
mph 115.34

Row 77 time 16.03

60ft 1.7991
330ft 4.9689
660ft 7.5812
mph 93.35
990ft 9.7762
1/4 11.7722
mph 115.93

As you can see the Row 66 run the car stumbled as the track was so good and i didn't have enough revs to activate the nitrous as it has an rpm window to operate in.

Both runs were within an 1hr of each other with the same nitrous jets Mini One suspension etc etc

So even though there was .8221 difference in elapsed time the mph was within .59mph of each other, this is why we calculate horespower by the trap speed because it will remain constant.

Hi 1320autos.

What opinion do you have about the G-tech? I have bought one and I would like to meausre the time to 1/4 mile and horsepowers.

Now I must weight my car - I will do in next days. I have very bad start because of hard tyres. I get about 100 miles to 1/4. The gps on the line and t he g-tech show the same speed.

We do not have the track for drag racing, so we do our own lines at 1/8 and 1/4 to see how cars works.

So maybe do you know the factor how to calculate the real horsepowers from g-tech. Because it shows the real hp. So lowest then on the tyres.

Thanks.

The g techfrom what I've read / seen can sometimes be within a 1/10th of the dragstrip, I've never used one myself because we are fortunate to live near Santa Pod.

You should always use the mph as a reference to horsepower. ET-MPH-HP Calculator

I presume you doyour testing on an airfield and if thats the case the only way to make the Mini hook is by running a pair of drag slicks, this will giveyou more consistanttimes and will allow you to see your improvements.

I believe the g-tech shows flywheel horsepower.

Good luck with your tuning.

Hey Ant FR, I am really keen on hearing this story. Would be very interested in what mods you had.

I believe I am also somewhere around 210ish whereas I should IMHO be closer to 230. I have been playing with the idea of dyno mapping for some time. Now pretty much decided to do that over the coming weeks. If/when I do, will also post my own story.

Oh..and sorry if this is a bit off topic
