6 Speed Conversion Questions

Hey guys, I've searched the forums, and I came up with the following items needed to fit a Cooper S gearbox into a Cooper:

6 Speed box (obviously)
Gearbox Mounts
Sideshafts
Flywheel
Clutch

What else would I need? Just want to be very sure! I'd love to go to 1320 autos, but it's a bit far from South Africa

Gear Stick and cables

Try and get an ally flywheel if you can because the stock one is so heavy.

Awesome! Thanks so much... I was also wondering, is the flywheel and clutch swop just for strength, or is it absolutely necessary? If so why? Also, where could I get a flywheel? Thanks so much 1320!

The input shaft is much bigger and beefier splines, so thus you have no choice but to change it.

The clutch on the s is physically bigger and can hold more power.

The cheapest option is put the original S flywheel and clutch but its very heavy

The next option is ally flywheel and stock clutch if you want a OEM feeling pedal

The final option is uprated clutch and flywheel like a clutchmasters or exedy both what we can supply but the pedal will be a lot firmer due to the uprated cover.

It all depends how you drive your car and what you want from it.

I knew there was something else; Starter Motor

hmmm...yeah I'd love a light flywheel and fancy clutch but I'm on a bit of a tight budget! I can get the gearbox for R2500, which I guess is about 180pound? Not bad I thought...guess it's the same story with the driveshafts?oh well, guess it'll be worth it! my midlands has done 100000km!so I guess it'll be worth it...

Check the front mounting where the clutch slave bolts to these usually break off in an accident.

Dude this guy sounds a bit dodgey, he can't give me a straight answer about this gearbox regarding where it came from...is there any way I can check it while it's on the floor? For bearings synchros etc that its all fine? Damn, I was so excited

what benifits are there to adding a cooper s gearbox? the one in my cooper is about to soon (i think) and i allways thought the cooper could do with another gear but i never thought you could put a cooper s gearbox on a cooper engine. but this would definatly be a great option. do 1320 do this service themselves?

Nope, he just has the gearbox, and that's what's so odd- why does he just have a gearbox? I'm worried it's one that's been replaced and now he's trying to make a few bucks off me...

At that price I would have it just for the casing

Perhaps I should just get it, and if I need to repair it it will probably still be worth it?
