Offline | So why's the 0-60 run gonna be quicker with DSC off? I'll leave mine on, and slip the clutch at 2,500....you turn your's off and dump it at 5,000. 8-) Ken Shapiro Electric Blue w/ Sport Package...first "S" delivered in Maryland (5/10/02) I've been everywhere but the electric chair...I've seen everything but the wind. |

Offline | Ken.........You are WRONG I do not dump the clutch at 5k what's wrong with you!!! Try 3k modulate the clutch for best hookup....NO DSC. With your brilliant DSC assisted takeoff the cooper will do this..you rev the engine let go as soon as the car detects wheel slip....Brakes..Ignition cut...Brakes... = slow.... NO VERY SLOW. Please do you're self a favour go out time your self with and without and then get back to me. peter |

| MINI2 Master | This sort of banter is pointless... We've already established that in very specific trials, the MINI is faster with DSC off. 0-60, standing 1/4 mile, oval tracks, etc... The MINI is set to allow a zero slip angle. No tire spin, to drift, no lock-up, no 'fun' as it's referred to. And I dont mind one bit. In traffic, on public roads, I wouldn't really ever turn it off. In competition, if I was a great driver, that really knew my car, than off it'd go. The technology in the DSC or any "yaw control" system with a different anagram, is WAY better than any driver could ever be. The MB and BMW systems are very conservatively set. The Porsche one lets you have some fun, but limits excessive wheel spin, or lets you have your tail out a bit, but not too much. The Audi ones are apparently dual-mode. The technology is proven in so far as it was banned from open-wheel racing. With a good system, and excellent software, the open-wheel racers were taking off as fast as tires and track conditions would allow. They'd plunge into corners and the system would allow speeds through the corners that the drivers themselves could never achieve. The braking mid-corner was safe enough, that no one ever excercised enough caution. The overall result was that the cars got MUCH faster, the competition got less fun to watch, and the machines all behaved flawlessly as if you were watching a video game. Add to that, the fact that most organizations would rather lower the overall speeds, and increase the distance between cars, and the new systems worked far, far too well. So they banned them. Spectators all came to watch driver's drive - not their cars. This technology is an unfair advantage unless everyone has it on the track. When they all do, you've exhausted the last meaningful difference between teams - the skill. Since now all the drivers can execute a perfect launch, perfect cornering and perfect braking, less goes into the sport. Drafting, picking your line, and pit stops? That's the race? Sure, I'm over simplifying. But the point is that the technology is basically bullet-proof by now. Whether you like it or not, everyone for one reason or another pretty much agrees that it has no place on the track, and is a very, very good thing on public roads. You hate it, think it's intrusive when racing? You're right. Think it gives you an unfair advantage? You're also right. Think it's the ultimate active safety feature for unknown around the next bend? Wish that guy in the HUGE Buick the next lane over had it? What was that? Whoa, that DSC thing just saved my MINI from the curb. For me, if I know my car, and know the course, and know the conditions, no DSC for me. For the rest of world, paved, gravel, snow and ice or worse... DSC is the best invention since ABS. Chilli Red/White Cooper S, Sport Pack & Sunroof. Delivered June 12th, 2002!Now with MCS Winter Tire Package. |

| MINI2 Regular | I ran my first track event at IRP a couple of weeks ago and never turned off DSC. Not because I didn't want to, because I always forgot to. Anyway, I didn't feel that DSC was very obtrusive in my driving style as if it would have interfered while on the track I would have noticed and turned it off. I'm going to make it a point next time to turn it off and see what kind of difference it makes (stick a post-it note on the wheel or something). As far as my weekend concerned, I never got passed and was lapping the likes of e30 and e36 M3s . Here is a link to my Track weekend post...Amit's track weekend post take care Amit |

Offline | when i was fortunate enough to be able to blast around thruxton for a couple of laps in my cooper I made the decision of leaving the ASC+T turned on. This was due to the fact that I didn't want to leave parts of my lovely cooper behind on the circuit after a costly crash. I don't think that the driving aids took much fun out of the experience, the car was still traveling sideways at times, and wasn't far behind the works cooper that I was following. It did allow me to have one hand off the wheel to take photos while still being in control of the car. The only problem I found was the apalling amount of brake fad that occured after only a few corners, uprated pads will be on order for the new car! |
