| MINI2 Newbie | Gearbox Woes..... hi folks, i know its been covered but i want an answer with this mini. Ive got a Mini cooper 2003 (manufactured 2002) and am finding a clicking noise between gears and noise when driving specifically noticable at lower speeds (20mph in 3rd and 4th) almost a loud rattle but sounds like its coming from the n/s of the car.... its only covered 33000 miles. I assume my warranty has ended as its 3 years or 60k whichever comes first, is that correct? has their been a recall for this? any info much appreciated regards josh |

Offline | you would be out of warranty, and no, I'm afraid its not a recall, just an expensive repair bill. I too have a prefacelift, and decided to get a 6 speed conversion, as done by 1320 autos, see link below for my review, this i cannot recommend enough....i know many people who are on their 3rd/4th midlands and are just wasting their money replacing they're g/box with another problematic one http://www.mini2.com/forum/engine-dr...-feedback.html |

Offline | Speak to a good dealer (do some research on which one) and speak to them. Not familiar with this particular problem (mine was different) but lets assume the worst. With the car only having 33k on it you may get some sympathy, and some assistance with the cost of a repair/replacement. Not sure how likely this will be if the car is a long time out of warranty. You didn't buy it from the MINI Cherished scheme anytime in the last 12 months did you? If you do have to cover all of the replacement costs yourself then Marslandingparty's suggestion is certainly worth considering, it would be my choice. May be a bit more pricey, but should be a much better solution. The midland box is notorious. Good luck. ![]() MODERN MINI OSCARS 2008 - BEST COOPER NOMINEE |
