manifold fitting

has any one fitted an exhaust manifold on a gen 1 coopers. If so is it diffcult & can it be done on axle stands

It can be done but its gotta be done on the highest setting on axle stands, out of 5 i would say its a 3 for difficulty,

1, remove the heat sheild under the bonnet above the manifold.
2, undo the 8 bolts on the manifold
3, jack up high as possible
4, take the heat sheilding off around the cat area
5, remove the 2 sensors on the manifold
6, undo the 2 bolts on the cat, this is were it got difficult for me, it was that tight and rusted i snapped a bolt had to heat it up with oxy, acetalene and knock the snaped bolt off and replace then heat the other bolt up to remove it.

The hardest areas i thought were removing the Manifold from the bottom of the car as it very tight and lining the holes up when replacing, ohh and the snapped bolt.

when you say removing the cat was the hardest bit you must mean the mainfold i presume as the stock manifold has the cat weled on to it.

Its not tooooo bad.... just getting the damn manifold end bracket past the anti roll bar and hoses is a bit tough

Yep Thats the tough bit and thats the point were you could do with it on a ramp.
