Performance after oil change?

Just had an oil change on my 44k Cooper - cant believe the difference!

Driving it home it felt like that had put a new engine in, never mind new oil!

Is it normal to get such a nippier, more responsive car after an oil change? Even sat in traffic the whole car sounded much happier.

Should sound smoother and less tapping but better performance... hmmm if the oil is really bad beforehand I guess.

Hope you have checked the oil level as dealers are totally rubbish at measuring oil.

The "micro filter" is done as part of the oil service - is that what you mean?

Or has the filter change caused the up in performance?

If it was really dirty then almost defiantly you will see a performance boost on a brand new one.

I had the same thing... I don't think it's a psychological difference, I think it's real. The engine seems to rev more freely after an oil change!

Me too! I thought it was less drag from dirty paintwork and water on the intercooler

I gave my 2002 S a new oil filter, air-filter and oil & spark plug change about a month ago.

It too seemed a lot more responsive however I had put it down to the new air filter (however the old did not seem dirty at all).

I had also changed from OEM spark plugs to NGK Iridium.

I bought the S secondhand so I don't know what type of oil was used for its previous oil change. It's possible it was a higher viscosity than is recommended.

I used Castrol Edge 0W40. The engine starts quieter in the mornings (used to have slight valve train noise before).

It's definitely a different car after the service, however I still have cold start problems. I was hoping the Iridiums would cure the "only starts after 2nd turn of key problem", but they had no effect.

Cheers,

Dave
