| I LOVE MY MINI | turbo'd cooper Are there any company's that can fit a turbo to a cooper. I dont want to buy an S and my cooper is already a show car so i want to do something different. I reckon a cooper s gearbox will do the job cause if it can handle 250bhp cooper s then it should be fine with a turbo cooper. |

| MINI2 Senior | turbo cooper sounds excellent! You'll probably change every part in the conversion that makes the difference between a Cooper and a Cooper S engine so can't see it making a difference which kit you start with? Do it! Follower of 1320autos + GTTuning |

Online | MINI Mania UK offered Cooper /One turbo conversions over a year ago, but there was never a report that one was done: http://www.mini2.com/forum/engine-dr...turbo-kit.html |

Offline | Ask yourself how many people on MINI2 have a turbo R50-53 at all...... Bound to be something on NAM im sure. Now whos going to put their hands in their pockets first?? lol. 7-9 PSI is all you need for a nice little toy and much lighter than an S. Although I would aim low and just enjoy a nice torque curve instead of a cracked block. |

Offline | you CAN do a s swap, i just did mine about a week ago, you will need engine ,trans, trans mounting, engine mounting, wiring harness, ecm, new hood, overflow res, axles, and a little wiring skill. IT WILL BE A STRAIGHT BOLT IN mounting holes and exhaust, (i have a 2005 convertible with a 2003 s engine+trans) my battery didn't need to be moved, nor did i need new hubs |

| MINI2 Master | if you lived in america there is a full R56 new shape turbo engine and gearbox for sale on ebay there, is in classifieds too. Why has nobody yet whacked another engine in a mini shell. The only one i have seen is the rallycross 2.5 turbo one. But i reckon a 1.8t VAg engine would be great, or even better a cossie lump if you could get it to fit, |

Offline | i was thinking the same thing!! i have seen, a few years ago now, a rallycross mini with a 2.0 Duratec engine in there. it was a spaceframe chassis though.lol have you got any more info on the 2.5turbo?? people will probably say that you can get over 500bhp from the mini engine, and you can, but its hard work and takes money. LOTS of money. but with something like the VAG unit you can get upto around 325bhp with bolt ons (inc a new turbo) and you dont evne have to open the engine. plus i think there are looms that let you run the engine standalone. thanks Chris. |

| MINI2 Master | yup heres the badboy, think it is spaceframe too David Binks Rallycross Team Yup, with the 1.8T it easily runs standalone, and the best bit is they are cheap as chips due to being used in so many cars. when i have enough cash to run two cars i will be having a mk2 golf with 1.8t power |

Offline | We have quite a few VAG converted Lotus come in for mapping on Emerald, which is a nice stand alone system. Maybe we should look into engine transplants a bit more. Slicks 11.77@115.92mph Street tyres 12.162 @ 119.02 It's not how much you spend but how well you spend it |

| MINI2 Master | My mates dad is previously the British rallycross champ in a 500 bhp mk6 fiesta, my mate has a space framed mk6 fiesta rear wheel drive, was running 600 bhp but due to rear wheel drive is achieveing better results running a lower 350bhp, Simply type British rallycross championships into google for a wealth of info. One of the best circuits for viewing is Lydden, which is not far from me in kent. |

| MINI2 Master | As for the transplant, i don't see why it would be hard. Cost of a 1.8T engine is peanuts due to amount around, could use 5 speed gearbox from Ibiza to save space, intercooler will probably be last of worries, Engine is as reliable as you can get, internals are good for up to 350-400bhp as all come with forged pistons standard. If i had the time or money and more importantly space i would try it. But trouble is even wrecked minis are still worth something, although i still think you could do it for cheaper than having a mini engine turbo'd |

Offline | I believe the lotus conversions are 9k drive in drive out. I'm sure from a budget point off view most people will tackle turboing the Mini on their own eventually. Some people make an awsome job off it as well Ryephile.com - Turbo Project Part 1 Slicks 11.77@115.92mph Street tyres 12.162 @ 119.02 It's not how much you spend but how well you spend it |
