Hello mini fans,
I am new to the forum and new to the mini. I got my 03 cooper S a week ago and LOVE it. I used to have a 1989 1275 classic but am very happy with this new version.

Any body know if a genuine JCW exhaust free up any power. Also would an induction kit help at all?

I am looking at the pulley change and re map but cant decide at the moment any advice?

One thing I am not 100% happy with is the ASC system or what ever it is. It is too lively and cuts the power often when I don't think it needs to. Surely let the diff should be fine with 163 bhp.

Does the car have limited slip diff?? Thanks to alll and keep the flashing/waving alive.

Hi, and welcome to MINI2

Your car, being an '03 won't have a factory limited slip diff - this only became an option on the 2005 spec Cooper S.

The pulley mod is considered to be the best 'bang per buck' modification you can do, and if you fancy an exhast, have a look at the Milltek catback as opposed to the JCW system.

Yeah I was just wondering about the exhaust because it has the works exhaust and and induction on. The pulley will have to be done then. Shame about no lsd

The pulley and colder spark plugs are a must for power. i'd advice a 15% reduced pulley and a 1% oversize lightened crank.

On the S induction kit does give something, but not a lot. The best are GTT, Alta and JCW (I like the JCW including GTT insert as it looks really OEm and smart in the engine bay.

Exhaust wise I'd avoid the JCW, expensive, not the best for power and defo not the best for tone/nice roar. The GTT reroute pipe or the Milltek are probably the best for power, noise and price.

Also I'd advice an intercooler upgrage (not the Forge one!) ... my stock IC really struggled with a 15% pulley to cool the inlet air enough in warmer weather and after being ragged it even struggled in cool air! Its expensive but I also found that the M7 ultimate hood scoop seemed to work strangly well at keeping inlet temps lower....its not pretty but does make the car stand out and biuzarrly seeams to work even on the stock IC

All you need is a pulley and a grs ic to unleash some extra horsepower, then if you get bored and need some more an ex manifold and cam would be the next step.

We have a stock S airbox with oem filter and a stock Cooper exhaust sytem at the moment and loving it.
