urget please help! engine cutting out and lights on?

hiya i have just bin driving my car back home after a long drive(about 4 hours) and stopped at a petrol station all was fine pulled away and suddenly had a complete lose of power.. pulled over and the car stalled. restarted the car, the yellow light with an engine on it came on and has been on ever since( what does this mean )? then the car lost power another 4 times on the way home 15 minute journey.

and when the power goes a light called EML(big red light) comes on underneath this yellow engine light.

got back opened the bonnet car wasn't overly hot.the only change that has happened this evein is some covered the front of the car in flower ( bloody Halloween) i wiped most of it off and drove on everything fine for 3 hours..then bang.

please help me with what you guys think i could be. i am going to check it into the garage tomorrow as-well if the problems persist.

thanks eddy

Without knowing the code that was thrown, it is hard to tell. However, I would book it for a checkup.

Well, bit of a long shot. But if you just filled up at a petrol station did you tighten the filler cap? Otherwise, it probably does mean a trip to the dealers to read the fault codes.

How old is the car? mileage? and when you say bang do you mean it stopped?

You're lucky to have MINI Motorsport Centre near by

Hope your car is ok mate. I had the yellow EML light come on a while ago but it was due to some wites being chaffed on my airbox. The red EML light is supposed to mean something bad but could be something tiny. Be warned my diagnostics and to find the wire cost £66 from the dealer. Then they wanted £133 to fix the wire. They havent got any money from me

just one little thing, seeing as you have only done a small journey in it so far, you did put petrol in when you filled up i assume??????

Easy mistake to make and whack Derv in by mistake. Just an idea

hey ant fr

didnt think you could put deisel in a petrol because of the nozzle size? thought the only way you can get it wrong is the other way round i think.

I believe that you are right on that one. Diesel has a larger nozzle.

You can do it...well used to be able to on old cars. Not on new pumps/cars due to nozzle changes. When I worked at Avis we used to get 3+ cars everyday reported or returned with D or P in the wrong car. If you put D in a P then its not only a drain thats required but sometimes new injectors as D ruins them by blocking them.

assuming the petrol station you are using has different pump sizes. ie the local tesco to me still has all the old pumps from years ago, so yes you still can. in fact a mate of mine only a few months ago put diesel in his scooby
