| Banned | Superchips Removed! Thanks to Rolands post from a while back (thanks Roland!) I realised that my car is pinking. So today I removed the suerchips remap that was part of my Lohen 225 package. It did worry me that I was getting much better mpg and no poppage from the exhaust and so might be running lean. Like a retard I did wonder what that very light tapping noise was when the car went past 5k rpm. Sounded like metal filings being dropped on a piece of sheet metal. So... as I couldn't get hold of Lohen or Superchips I though it best to remove the remap... and guess what... after a few runs the car actually felt quicker and the tapping sound was gone. Naturally I'll go back to Lohen to ask if everythings ok as it may just be my car or my ears but unless the superchips guys want to remap my car on the rolling road next time I don't think I'll be putting the map back on anytime soon. Also added a nice new roof graphic to the car today... can you tell what it is yet ![]() |

Online | Good news! Now you see why superchips are so well known for blowing engines One map doesnt fit all so the rolling road tune is really the only sensible way to go. |

Offline | thanks Bigshow ![]() if you look back at old threads I always suspected that version of Bluefin may have had too much advance and was at least partly responsible for a couple of engines going south. You have to bear in mind that producing a map in this way is joint responsibility. When we took Lees GTT300T car to Superchips we found the guys very helpful and they listened to what we wanted in terms of fueling/ignition/rev limit/idle/light throttle and they gave us what we wanted. We then do extensive on the road AF ratio monitoring and knock monitoring on the fuel that will be used. The on road testing is of higher importance than the RR testing. A big mistake is to turn up with a tank of high octane race fuel in the hope of getting a very high and impresive BHP on the rollers. What happens is Superchips (or whoever) then advance the timing (as you would expect) as its nowhere near the knock point, and you gain power. BUT soon as you run it (or your customers run it) on pump fuel......tinkle tinkle....tank tank .....boooooofffff..........(slows down and revs the car)......ddddrrrrrraaaaaagggggg....drang.... We will be working with Superchips for some new GTT spec maps in the near future. I'll start a new thread soon all about it. We will not be using 'off the shelf' files. ![]() |

Offline | Nice roof graphic. I was forced to wear a t-shirt for a birthday recently with that image and "two in the pink... etc" on it. I sort of deserved it as I had misled a guy into thinking his gf would love it :P At times I'm a very bad man ![]() I had never been a fan of these canned tunes. You read all over the place that each car is different and some need a tune and some dont. I just could never see a canned tune working. Its good to see its fixed your problems. |

| Banned | Ive got the buefin on mine. When i went down to GTT to get some bits fitted to my car, roland took the car out to check for pinking and there was no pinking. Im going to book in on the rollers at 1320s and see if its ok on the bluefin and also try my standard map and see what is best for the car. |

Offline | Pinking is best checked driving on the road not the rolling road. You can listen and even watch the timing on a scanguage . (use an assistant). Yes Lukas car was fine on the fuel in it on that day. |

| Banned | Thanks for the comments guys. Roland, I do think your thread may have saved my engine so big thanks for that. I think Lohen used Superchips originally to rolling road map their 225 package and I know most owners are happy with it but I now think it goes back to the theory that every car is different. For instance, I'm running the Janspeed which won't have been tested along with the other 225 mods at Superchips. Lohen also avised me to run Optimax with this conversion which I did, but before the conversion the car always seemed to run badly on the stuff, it loved Tesco 99. I drove to Heathrow last night and I can honestly say it was flying with the stock map in place, I'd happily wage that its given me another 5+bhp and will try some 30-70 times to find out when I'm back and RR it. Thanks for the comments on the roof graphic too, it will take some explaining when the mothership see's it. Bhozar, you are a bad man, my GF is no more though so couldn't care less what she thinks... Ant's right though, other girls might not like it, then again I live in Milton Keynes so I'm scraping the barrel anyway ![]() |

Offline | I've got the Bluefin on my 02 Cooper with a Viper filter and Milltek Cat Back exhaust. Tried listening tonight on the way home and all sounds fine to me. I also notice the residue out the exhaust is quite dark/black, would that indicate the fueling is rich enough? Also changed the plugs last weekend and they look nice and brown? Just wondering if this Superchips plinking problem is more prone on the 'S' model map and due to being forced induction, hotter temperatures and therefore a harsher environment? |

Offline | Cheers Al, thats what I thought. Suppose I won't have to worry about the dreaded pinking then ![]() ![]() To be honest the Coopers running fine, was just wondering if you have to be a little more careful with fueling on forced induction like on the 'S'? |
