yeah but not to its optimum level like you could remap, i did'nt mean it would'nt run. But not at 100% of potential.

You are right there Ant, but it does do an okay job.

When you can move the rpm limiter and play with the timing and fuel there is a fair amount to be gained.

Nice review Alan
A few things I'll add to it.
Alan did one or two mods at a time as he wanted to see the increases develop. This is a nice approach, it takes longer (and as pointed out costs a bit more this way). This method isnt foolproof though. You can change something and get little or no benefit initially, as its being held back by something else that hasn't yet been changed . We put together 'recommended' performance packages on our website to reduce the effect of this , but mixing things around is half the fun,... I can see that
As can be seen changing from 15% to 18% even on the RR (does smaller pulleys no favours generally) gained power. Why would anyone want to change back to 15%? On the road the improvements are even greater.
Yes with better fans more power would be made, but then you drive on the road not the rollers.
Alans intake temps were actually pretty good driving on the road.
Regarding boost pressure, repeated long hawls in 4th and 5th will occassionally go higher (by about 2psi as found) than one quick blast in say third.
Alan wanted to keep his car looking stock hence not going for our 16 tube intercooler and opting for our GTT/JCW filter upgrade in place of the GTT Cold Ram ...that and the missis would kill him even more than shes already going to kill him already
Best Regards Roland GTT
Weve already talked about a remap. Yes theres more to be had (most of which will probably come from raising the rev limit)...but its not going to be much . I think a Miltek catback (or GTT ReRoute on a stock exhaust) GTT Manifold and GTT Intercooler would see it around 260BHP. But hey this is a very nice quiet, discrete conversion with loads of mid range wallop....that is what you need,

Would be interesting to know the 30-70mph 3rd gear time

GTT, GRS, Janspeed, JCW, OMP + various other bits - 232.6bhp, 191.2lbft on 1320's rolling road

So do you think that the Surrey Rolling Road fans aren't cooling the IC enough Roland??

What horsepower / torque do you believe Snowies should be seeing, what does your butt dyno say?

Paul

If you are good you can test it out with your butt dyno on Saturday and see what you think

I'll be bringing the box of tricks for anyone that wants some on road times such as 30-70, Snowie, be good if you could direct to a nice bit of flat straight blacktop for that.

Right outside the site the road is suitable - Charlie from SRR has had his M3 crowd at well over 3 figures on this stretch
Be good to do some 30 to 70 testing as I have not had time to do it yet.

I think Big Shows box of tricks is more accurate than my butt

If we're really nice to Big Show you get a nice spreadsheet the following day as well

Lets hope Sat weather is dry

I usually charge a Wispa bar apiece for that sort of detail... Actually no, on a diet now so a rice cake and some dust please

Be good to get a database of accurate times (with mods) so I'll bring some paperwork to take down the info on each car.

Should I bring some fruit

Looking forward to this session on Saturday - the more data we can gain the better for the whole modding community.

Can we keep on topic please

For anything to do with the Dyno day on Saturday and the recent extenstion of the day to included some 30 - 70 mph tests can I ask people to post here

http://www.mini2.com/forum/uk-irelan...-november.html

Lets try to keep this thread clean and focus on tunning activities, results debates on options to improve etc - others may well want to follow this thread in the months to come

Lol.. yes please, fruit is as exotic as it gets for me right now but its the only way I'll be getting low 14's at the Pod next year.

Totally agree, the more data the better, dyno plus on road measurements will give some well rounded figures... also keep Roland happy too

Great review and it was good to see and hear your car at Castle combe a few weeks back.

I agree will all your points regarding the tuning route you have followed, the only thing I have to add is I have some data with regard to changing the GP intercooler for a GTT one.

The observations were on a simular modded car to your spec, the calibrated boost gauge would only show 16 psi max with the gp cooler, and then nothing else was changed except the GTT cooler was fitted.

The boost would then max out at around 18.5

I dont know if any temps changed, but looking through the inside of the cooler there looks to be a differance in restriction, however the GP cooler did out perform the stock S cooler by a long way!

Keep up the good work, and I hope to get mine in some rollers soon for some final setting up!

It is back on the RR on Saturday and also having 30 - 70 tests as part of SRR day.

It might also have an IC change during the day to understand deltas

More data next week.
