| MINI2 Regular | GRS or GTT?? I'm having a problem deciding which Intercooler to get for my MCS! Which one would you recommend out of the GRS and the GTT? Chris |

Offline | That's strange, because when Randy Webb tested the GRS intercooler, I believe he found a 10C difference in favour of the GRS compared to the standard S intercooler. More importantly he saw a 10 bhp increase in power with the GRS intercooler over the standard S intercooler. What were the relative power gains that you saw between the GRS and the GTT intercoolers? ![]() Last edited by Capsaisin : Nov 25th, 2007 at 04:19 PM. |

Offline | We can dyno the cars then do some in gear tests as well, recording boost IAT timing etc etc. I was hoping Roland was going to post one up for evaluation. Slicks 11.77@115.92mph Street tyres 12.162 @ 119.02 It's not how much you spend but how well you spend it |

Offline | Hi Guys, Ive already done the test (GRS v GTT) already on two different occasions. Once on a GTT220 (ish) spec car and once on my own. On average GTT is about 4 deg C cooler and achieves about 0.5-0.7 psi more boost. GTT is bigger (tube area around 15% more) that is the only reason why. We get extra size by providing a neat alloy plate that moves the coil back to give clearance where the HT leads are. Grahams is fine aswell ,its a bit cheaper as we're vat registered ,mind you outside the EU ours is just £399. I hadnt intended putting this up ,but as someone mentioned it I've offered the results. Oh we did some tests on a Forge one too.....you dont want to know how that faired (different car admittadly). We didnt compare to stock but tbf I think both GTT and GRS will outperform stock quite comfortably. I dont think RR's are going to be very reliable for testing ints tbh. If the boost is up and charge temps are lower you can be almost guaranteed more power on the road. Its not rocket science or GTT badge that explain why it works better its effective area of the core. Both use quality core and both position well for the scoop. I use third gear with 4 or 5 WOT runs from about 3000rpm to 6800rpm watching the peak at end of each run, then taking average of the 5 runs. First run starts with charge air temp near as poss to ambient by driving off the throttle for a bit. Best Regards Roland GTT ![]() |

Offline | You reckon, I thought it was quite a good offer, I'm sure there's someone out there who is willing to help out with the test. Then we can have a; pro GTT IC owner V pro GRS IC owner Slicks 11.77@115.92mph Street tyres 12.162 @ 119.02 It's not how much you spend but how well you spend it |

Offline | G R S ![]() Edit oh yeah.... ...I have a copy of Performance Ford sat on my lap. November 2007 issue. It has the Focus ST Intercooler test on a tuned Focus ST. Now I know the ST is an altogether different beast to the MINI but it quite clearly prooves biggest isn't always best. The GRS intercooler which was the smallest on test (except for the standard intercooler) came first, largest came last. Standard = 270.1bhp GRS = 288.9bhp Radtec (largest) = 286.6bhp If Lurchichelli is game (he has GTT) I'm game (GRS) if 1320 want to test both our cars with both coolers. Edit 2: To add a bit more, there is quite clearly more than simply bigger core = best there is a lot more to the design of the cooler. I know I don't make any denials about being great friends with Graham (but this came after choosing the GRS cooler and I'd put money on someone not being able to find someone who dislikes the man himself), but Graham designs and makes intercoolers for his (2nd) living thats his thing AND his families thing. Now Roland tunes cars in all aspects and doesn't specialise in one area. Who do you go to for an operation, a Surgeon or a GP? I made my decision for a number of Reasons, and if the GRS turns out worse off than the GTT I'm still not going to regret that decision. ![]() |
