GTT or Alta V2 CAI

Hi,

I am looking into getting a CAI for my MCS (2003). I have narrowed the choice down to the
GTT or Alta v2. I have the utmost respect for both products but if you were choosing which would you choose and why.

Also does anyone have any comments about the benefits or otherwise of using the ALTA lid on their CAI ?

For information my car has a BBR220 conversion on it (19% reduction pulley).

Thanks

Perm

The one that fits my budget and looks best in my ride. There are few if any gains from a CAI, so the choice is wide open.

Save your money and put it towards something like a larger Intercooler...

Sef,

I may just do that...... I think an upgraded Intercooler would give my car the most benefit.... however I like the idea of a little more super charger noise......

Any other comments ?

Thanks

I'd recommend a CAI as a good mod especially for noise

GTT or Alta? I have GTT and am very pleased but I'm sure the Alta is fine.

GTT, GRS, Janspeed, JCW, OMP + various other bits - 232.6bhp, 191.2lbft on 1320's rolling road

Personally the GTT is the slightly better peice of kit. There are certain engineering and air flow things on it that are better and so give you that 1 or 2 hp. However the Alta (I have this) is cheaper (and red, so matches my car better ) and like DaFlake says theres not much difference in HP on any kit.

Personally I'd choose whatever looks best, and is more in your budget....as the power is of relatively small consequence and anything your might save could go on bigger ICs or injectors etc etc. however the best engineered one is the GTT in my mind.

The only thing I do not like about the Alta is that it is straight foam which means higher care. I believe that the GTT is a more fiber filter I have the Mini Madness CAI and it is a nice addition to the car especially on the noise side. Mine makes a nice sucking sound as I shift.

The GTT CAI sucks nicely and does make the SC whine louder... But you must drill holes in the plastic divider (in front of the standard airbox) if you don't want to lose power...(Too much heat soak) Having said that I haven't tested it yet with the holes (have without) so unsure about power gains...

The MINI Madness is the same but they do sell a divider that you can install if you want to keep your original one. I think that you can buy this separately as well.

Yes, I've been offered a replacement divider once I've tested it with the holes. I may just remove it for testing tho...

I have the Alta V2 and it made a 1 bhp gain over the standard box. 1320's car has kind of proven IMO there is no need to change from standard to make big numbers but I like the look of the Alta in the engine bay and it does increase the supercharger whine. I agree with Sef though, get an intercooler instead, the GRS has done wonders for mine.

you can get a better panel filter for small money as well, if you keep the oem box

I'd suggest a panel filter like KN or Piper to replace the stock one... this really does make almost as much difference as many of the induction kits and at a fraction of the cost. A good quality panel filter in the stock airbox will work well, but less noise and no whooshing suck when you blip the throttle like on a Alta or GTT

the design of the alta air box is better, take a look.but foam filters are known for bad filtration.

Its just a thought Roland but will the GTT works hidden air filter fit in the standard S airbox?

I know it does not have the extra flap but it does have a vent into the skuttle.

CAI for noise, Standard for power.... blimey i never thought id be saying that about modding motors!

I have Alta and tbh its just to keep the chav in me quiet, i love the sound and would prob find it hard to switch back tbh the noise gets under your skin only other mod id switch it for would be the M7 VGS (ohhh that whine!) but they dont make them any more
