Putting a turbo in a Mini One

Hi everyone, im interested in giving my car more power.

Just wanted to ask, what other components would I need as well as a turbo to convert my Mini One into a turbo?

Im guessing I would need:

Turbo
Gearbox?

Anything else?

Also what sort of price would I be paying for the conversion? Would I be better off buying a Cooper S?

Cheers!

I'd buy a Cooper S

Far less hassle and easier to explain to the insurance company

The list of modifications necessary to successfully turbocharge your One would be huge. Do also bear in mind that the engine internals and gearbox are very different in the S to cope with forced induction and the increase in power.

To put it into perspective, for GT Tuning to do a proper job of turbocharging the R53 MCS it's £10,000! While Roland's work is top flight stuff and isn't cheap, he has taken the easier (and less expensive route) than starting with a One as he hasn't had to significantly upgrade the major engine internals and gearbox to cope with the extra power.

It would be a good deal cheaper (and the result hugely more satisfactory) for you simply to upgrade to an S.

Even if you managed to turbocharge the One, as s-d-c has already said, it would be an insurance and resale nightmare

Tigger.

I think the cheapest route of adding extra power to the 1st gen ONE is by remapping the ecu by way of bluefin or similar which will give it the same power as a Cooper
See >> http://www.mini2.com/forum/mini-one/...can-i-say.html.

This still has to be declared to your insurance co ...(although its much harder to detect}

hi all, thanks for your replys!

i already have a bluefin installed on my One, i wanted to take it to the next level if you know what i mean.

also i didn't want to upgrade to an Cooper S, for two reasons, firstly because I have had my One from new and personalised it exactly to my own tastes and couldn't afford to do it to a Cooper S,
and secondly it would be an extra £1000 (I been quoted) for my insurance to be upgraded to a Cooper S.

Im stuck in a big hole basically looks like I will have to wait a year or so.

Thanks anyway!!!

You could always have an s engine put in your one?? I suppose 1320 would be your first call!

I am sure that woud cost less than a turbo and once registered you may be able to tell the insurance its an "S"

Though if the insurance is too much for an "S" then you can bet a turbo "one" will be another £500 on top of the S cost...

From what I can tell from your car, most of the stuff will move over.

easiest solution stick with the one then, cheapest way and by far the most sensible solution would be to go for the S. there can't be many mods you can't transfer to the S anyway. Plus a lot of people make the jump from a One/cooper to an S and they all have to make the same sacrifice of th mods they have already done to be given up for the supercharger whine. Trouble is the Whine wins everytime!!!!
