let this be a lesson to you all.....lol

Ok, injectors, it appears that the little O-rings on the injectors can and will come off. how do i know, because after having refitted my old injectors before she goes to get the head done i managed to lose one in the inlet manifold and now she runs on three as air is getting in. Only once i had taken the fuel rail off did i notice the missing o-ring.

Yes i did grease it up beforehand etc, so got to wait for BMW to order me in some o-rings to replce the standard one so that i can then get the car to the garage for its head change.

So let this be a lesson to you all, take car replacing the injectors, those pesky o-rings do come off......

I have taken advice from quite a few people, seems that it could get stuck behind the inlet valve but should burn off, just as well i have a new head all going on in a fortnight.

What a nightmare!!!!!!

Anyone else had this happen or am i the only nupty to do it.

don't say it with a question mark, your meant to say, "yep that sounds ok Ant", and reassure me, i'm scared i buggered her up now. I had no problem doing it last time, maybe i was too heavy handed.

Urgh.... so you dropped a rubber o-ring into the inlet manifold, that's gotta cause a problem re airflow or something no? What about if it jams something open or prevents something from operating as it should.

Not sure i could rely on the advice of "it'll burn off."

It can't be any worse than driving with your oil filler cap off for 150 miles (WOT at times!). My mate did this. Forgot to put his oil cap back on his engine. Only noticed it'd happened when he got a strong smell of used engine oil. Sick or what !! Took him ages to clean the underside of the bonnet and all components.

Cheers,
K.

Just worries me if you manage to jam the inlet valves thats all. Ignition with one stuck open will make quite a mess...... but i'm sure it will be ok

Been there, done that Only found out when i checked to see why one of the horns wasn't working! I found the Oil Cap in exactly the same place i left it (on top of the airfilter case) Lucky the Mini bonnet closes quite tight!

Ok got advice from about 10 people now, all mechanics one a mini specialist.

They have all said virtually the same, so other than stripping the whole engine down to retrieve it theres not much else i can do and seeing as the only journey it will now do is the 70 miles to the workshop to have the head done repalced it seems madness to try anything else.

I've had this happen to mine. When removing the original injectors one of them was missing. Upon closer inspection the injector that had the missing one had residue going further up the unit. Luckily my replacement injectors all had o rings Mine's done about 5k since with no issues But then I think my o ring went some time before the upgrade.

I have seen engines that have bits of spark plug escape out the exhaust valve without problem! So Im sure a little bit of rubber will not be a problem!

Its more likley to of fell down the front outside of the engine as you removed the rail.

Either way I would not loose any sleep.
