Sc Pulley Change - What's Involved

When s tuner changes your SC Pulley, what's actually involved in the process ?

I hear the engine has to be lifted to get at it, is this correct ?

Yep your correct.

you lift the engine, undo the engine mounts and lift the engine. use a pulley removal tool, put un new pulley and ensure its tight. put on new belt to stop slipping, realign the engine and do up mounts.

There are several guides over the net, you could also strip the engine from the front and get to it.

1. Car front end is put on jack stands.
2. Lower skid plate is removed.
3. Airbox/ECU is removed.
4. Various bolts are removed (including the three engine mount bolts.
5. Engine is slowly lifted to gain access to pulley.
6. Belt is removed.
7. Pulley is removed and the new one installed.

Reverse the order to put it back together.

Pretty simple actually.

Is there enough clearance to change from a 15% to a 17% without raising the engine?

Not for my hands and I suspect not for most.

If you decide to change the pulley yourself, make sure you use a good pulley extractor, preferably a one piece affair. Plus you’ll need belt tensioning tool – I made one in the end!

Doing it yourself is easy as long as you have the tools, a little know-how and patience. I do all of our car mech work, but I have been a mechanic for a long time. I was a crew chief in the military for many years.

If you are unsure of your abilities, I do recommend Lucky Dave's path...

Crunch Question.........

Is it easy to put the original pulley back on as this is often mentioned as needing a press to get it on as opposed to the bolt & collar that reduced ones use ?

Shouldn't be too hard to refit, heat up the original pulley (not too much!!) and push it on, just need to make sure you don't push it on too far...

Also, it I would recommend that the SC be removed for the fitting of the original pulley. Diving into your car with a torch is not the greatest of ideas.
