| MINI2 Regular | quite easy if you have done things like this before, you push the plastic intake at the front of the car out of its mountings, then the fabric type intake pipe can be pulled from the air box and plastic intake, it is a reasonably type fit, but it comes off, then you fit the new flexi hose in the same way the fabric type was fitted, again it is quite a tight fit so it stays on, then clip the plastic intake back in, i also fitted 2 zipties at both ends of the pipe to makesure everything stays in place but this isnt necesary, PM me if you want one, there is a small difference, but you will notice it, as i and another member i have sold one to has, i am not guaranteeing this but my car feels more responsive and seems to pull better at 4000rpm, and there is a nicer, slightly louder tone at this rpm, thanks |

Online | This is what i have done to mine to solve the issue of choking the engine of air. Got a 1m length of 76mm Air ducting, pulled out the stock plastic tubing that, tbh is pritting rubbish, and put this in. The result is instant from the second you turn the key and drive. It sounds better, its more responsive, and when ya give it some welly...... .......oh yeah, its good ![]() If you have a viper like I, then i would deffo recomend this. It looks a little untidy at the mo, but a few cable ties will sort that out. Flickr Photos: http://flickr.com/photos/22361563@N08/ |

Offline | You have too make sure that there aren't too many corners in the air supply. Make sure the air can reach the filter smoothly. My previous setup (Raid Max HP) : ![]() My current setup (BMC CDA) : ![]() As you can see, I made sure that the intakes sucked in nothing but cold air. This is very important. Also notice how smooth and easy the air can reach the intakes. My BMC CDA setup takes air from one of those seperated boxes. You just have to remove one plastic piece and you've got a cold air supply. I have tested several intakes, and in my opinion, the BMC CDA is one of the best you can get. A close second is the Pipercross Viper. The Viper costs a lot more and adds less performance compared to the BMC CDA. The good point about the Viper is that it is easier to install compared to the BMC CDA. Here's the setup of the BMC CDA and why this thing is so good. Inside there is a cotton filter (same material as the open BMC intakes or the panel filters), but around the filter there is still an open area which allows the air to flow. This is one of the reasons why it's better than a Pipercross Viper. The Viper has a foam filter which doesn't allow as much air flow as the CDA. Another reason is the fact that the Viper costs about $100 more and this for less performance. As far as other intakes go (also tested a couple of open intakes): Open filter : -> better throttle response -> beautiful sound (the open BMC is the loudest since it's directly installed on the engine) -> looks good -> the car will most likely produce less power because it sucks in hot air -> a heatshield is a must when it comes to open intakes -> good brands are K&N, Pipercross, BMC, aFe, DDM, ... Panel filter: -> cheap -> gains hp at every moment (no hot air is sucked in) -> good brands are BMC (highest hp gains) and K&N (cheapest) Closed filter: -> gives the highest amount of hp -> looks good -> some are almost as loud as an open intake -> they can be expensive, but not always -> good brands are Pipercross, Raid, Gruppe M, BMC A guy I know has also had a few good setups: His K&N Typhoon with heatshield ![]() His BMC CDA setup ![]() Kind regards Der Abt Last edited by MINIAC : May 10th, 2008 at 10:25 PM. Offline | Hi do you know where this guy got the heat shield from? Was it a purchased item or did he make it himself?? Do you know or could you find out what the measurements are as i might try and get my bro in law to make one. Thank you so much Anthony |

Offline | Because I know him, he's also from Belgium ![]() He made it himself. I'm affraid he hasn't given any measurement to anyone. He spent a lot of time building that thing and he never really gave any info. I do have some pictures of the shield, showing the different parts if that can help. ![]() Kind regards Der Abt Last edited by MINIAC : May 10th, 2008 at 10:29 PM. | MINI2 Regular | great installs!! i have had an idea of my own for an ultimate induction system for a cooper/one, so i think i may share it as i may not have a chance to do it myself (saving up for an s), my idea is: fit a cooper s bonnet (extreme i know but i think the bonnet vent could be very usefull) fit a silicone pipe from throttle body to a cda/viper etc connected to an air intake duct (available from GPR and demon tweeks) by hosing (all hosing and pipes with least bends and as short as possible), the duct being mounted on a bracket so it sits directly behind the bonnet vent, a bit of mesh over the duct to stop leaves etc getting in and maybe some rubber strip around the duct so it has a slight seal to the bonnet some heat shielding and wrap the piping in heat reflective material may help stop intake temps rising also this is only an idea and may sound extreme but i think it should give some good gains and can't see any big probs, apart from the cooper s bonnet and finding air duct most suited to the bonnet vent size/shape, tell me what you think! |

Offline | Not a bad idea really. I know a few people who have the S bonnet on their car. You could look at it in two ways, either you just install an S bonnet and let the air that comes through the scoop simply blow onto the engine (this will bring more cool air in the direction of the header), or you install a custom system that takes the air from the scoop and brings it to the intake. Or, if you really want to go crazy, you could do a combination of both. Plenty of tipes of hosing and pipes around to create this. Whatever choice of the above, the effect is going to be positive. If you are going to choose a carbon intake, I strongly suggest the BMC CDA. Also, regarding the S bonnet, if you take air from the scoop to an intake, make sure you put something that filters the dirt inside of the scoop. Otherwise filth might get sucked into the intake. If you try it, don't forget to post pics ![]() Kind regards Der Abt |
